Description
Viggen had its first flight in 1967. It entered military service in 1971 as a fighter (AJ 37), aerial reconnaissance (SF 37), maritime patrol (SH 37) and trainer (Sk 37). Later a fighter-interceptor version was built (JA 37). Swedish Air Force was the only user . The planes retired in 2005, being replaced by JAS 39 Grippen. The plane is well known for its short landing (less than 500 meters). In can also operate form public higways. Viggen is also known for being the only plane to achieve missle lock-on with radar on the SR-71 Blackbird (despite heavy jamming).
