Tanned Gray Squirrel by KonekoKaburagi Tanned Gray Squirrel by KonekoKaburagi

After a few days of sitting in an alum salt bath, I was finally able to dry, break and oil up this little cutie. She's not super soft and fluffy, but still pretty nice. Unfortunately her tail was not deboned and started slipping so bad, I cut it off to avoid any risk of bacteria spreading through the tanning mix.
She's not for sale, but there are 4 others that will be once they are completed :)

What's your tanning method? I have to tan a few squirrels.

I used a salt/alum solution and let is soak for a few days I cant remember the exact combination I used but I think it was in ratio to this one but with out the borax: [link] (the original recipie uses about about 12 pints of water). after breaking it in I used neats-foot oil to keep it supple :)

One of the things an alum/salt solution is really good at is killing stuff. You didn't have to worry about bacteria spreading in that. But very nice pelt, it looks like a good soft tan :D
