still using BorderSkin? IconPackager alternative? by komalo still using BorderSkin? IconPackager alternative? by komalo
Since I am not a premium user and I can't create polls so I am asking using a deviation.

With the release of windows 10 preview, I wanted to ask if you are someone who are
still using Border Skin or would be interested to see it being developed again ??.

Also do you want a free alternative to IconPackager that supports changing icons by themes ?? something like IconTweaker ??

Sorry to ask this using a deviation.

P.S: this is my first interaction on deviantArt from 3 years, just needed to tell that to someone =D .

Well, personally what I'd like is a Windows 7, 8/8.1, and Windows 10 desktop enhancement program. I'd like to see Multiple Desktops (for OSes which don't include that), something like StarDock's Fences program (folders which expand on demand), icon theme changer, and maybe a theme changer. I like the idea of BorderSkin to make skin-making easier, but I'd also like to see some way of simplifying the creation tools needed as well.

For me personally, I already use DisplayFusion to help improve my productivity, a paid version I'd add. If you could make something free that covers other things, like Multiple Desktops, something which offers similar functionality to StarDock's Fences, and maybe a super light-weight theme changer (that also looks and works beautifully, maybe based on DX11), I'd love it!

Add tons of features, plug-in support, settings, configurations and customization options as well. If you can do that, it'll be amazing! =)

Of course! I used it all the time in XP! Have now moved to 7 but themes can't provide the amount of flexibility borderskin has...
Looking forward to the new version :D

Border skin sure is the best looking Aero-transparency stuff software, including an address bar that really works and everything but in terms of useability it was too buggy for me.
I also don't think that there are too many people out there who still use Windows versions older than Windows Vista so I don't know if anyone really "needs" it (Aero transparency and Windows7 themes are also available for Windows 8 and sure will be available for Windows 10).
But as fas as I'm concerned I'd find it great to try an improved version of Border Skin!

That was my main concern, I didn't think there will be people would still need
BorderSkin, but I finally decided to continue because it is a fun challenge after all.

one of my new main goals is to maintain backward compatibility whether
regarding platform or regarding themes that were created before.

there's no need to pay, working on BorderSkin is enough for me =).
thanks so much for the reply =) .

I would PAY for BorderSkin if it supported Windows 8 and above! No doubt is this the best implementation of "Aero" and it would be a welcome edition in the latest versions of Windows. As for the IconPacker alternative, that would be great as well, but I would prefer BorderSkin over IconPackager as I could much more potential in that.

Glad you are back :)

OMG I'm so glad to see that you are well. There have been so much bad news from your country that i really was afraid that something bad happened to you.
BorderSkin is still my favorite deviation i found on DA. So if you can handle it to make it work on actual OS, this would be very exciting.  An alternative to icon packager would be great too.:)

Welcome back:highfive:

yeah things were unstable here and still is to some degree. but I am fine, thanks for your concern =) .

well first I was thinking about creating some like IconPackager since I thought no one will need
BorderSkin anymore but since it is my first project, I want to improve it to the max. In addition
to that BorderSkin has some complex challenges that makes it fun to try to work on so I thought
I see if there's a want for it becouse it would be exciting for me to continue work on BorderSkin.

I am very happy to be back, thank you =)
