Glass CMD for XP by komalo Glass CMD for XP by komalo
Glass CMD for XP
after the release of Glass CMD for Vista/7, some of my friends here asked me to make one for XP, so here it is

Author
Mohamed Kamal

Requirments
Needs at Least .Net Framework 3.5 : [link]

Updates :
not too much just updated the look and enabled the right click menu, adjusted scroll bar and the blur edges, increased the width, with some other improvements

ViGlance Note
if you use ViGlance, it is better that you add Glass CMD to the exclude list

It runs in my XP SP3 but only display that png border, not command console background transparent, it's black like regular windows cmd.exe
What usually cause that issue? (Maybe different .NET Frameworks version?)

Just so you know, there are virus software detecting this deviation as a threat (shown here:) [link]

Anyway, the virus software is flagging all images hosted on fc06.deviatart.net as being potential threats, and it is likely to be quite annoying for many folks. If you could possibly contact Norton and ask them to remove the warning and/or show them that this archive is not a threat, it would probably be helpful for a lot of people who use this website (or you could save yourself some trouble and remove it for download and alert Norton that it is no longer a valid link/concern for them). Either way, whether you decide to take action or not, I thought you might like to know about it so that is why I decided to contact you about it.

so sorry for very late in reply

well, it is actually based on an old version of Border Skin, and the hook used in the old version was false detected by some AV, so no worry, but thanks for the warning :)

would you mind to explain a little?.. as i know beginning from NT6.x transparent CMD console is supported nativly by system but NT5.x doesnt support it.
using DOTNET3 or other bloated frameworks (by the way which arent included in system by default) make the usage of such sharp and powerful tool as CMD rather useless (just maybe as a toy or smth like that).
but there are some other more balanced (useful/pretty) implementations of console without need of DOTNET.

okay, i don't understand you, you mean creating a powerful CMD with .NET or other frameworks is better ?

sorry for the late in replying

i ment that .NET is too slow for such fast and sharp tools as CMD.

well, actually that's why i sometimes prefer to use scripting languages like AutoIt, but the problem is that in other software that create a more optional CMD, they need options of .NET Framework, but i always saw that the normal windows CMD is enough, it doesn't need tabs and other features

well i want to get back to it, but i am just focusing now on Border Skin, since it is the base code for the this, so when reaching a maximum stable state in Border Skin, i can develop this easily

Okay, I'll be waiting ;)

Thanx. Tried to make it user-friendly and multi-functional :)

If you did not notice - app can read all *.raw files and show the binary or decimal contents of it. ;)

Hey I have a request that's kinda big and small. I know school is starting soon but I hope you can get this done before it starts. So basically I understand that this app works by making the black parts or any color that you choose transparent and blurred. Well on ~fediaFedia latest screenshot, he used the app Glassify any Windows to make his Miranda message windows skin transparent and blurred. Only problem is that the app only works in Vista/7 so I was wondering if you could make it for XP?

And here's his screenshot: [link]

well, it is not a big deal, i will use the same code of the Glass CMD that i am working on, but the problem is that layered windows (which i am using to achieve transparency and blur) aren't stable, meaning that if a layered window had a size of the screen or any big size, it will become laggy even with out blur or anything and all the windows above it will be affected also, but it worth a shot, as soon as i finish the new fast blur for the Glass CMD, i will implement it in Miranda also :).

no no no, it is not gui modification - it is Context Menu shortcut for cmd, but it sometimes takes different resources ... I was thinking that calling like this can cause few problems on some modules of windows shell ( like nslookup ; ipcfg 'etc. ) ..

well this suppose to be a shell, so when you open from the context Menu you will have the normal cmd, i will try to implement it like the vista version to apply the effect on any new cmd.

hmm, just thought - dont forget to check ( maybe ) comptatability with MS PowerToy for CMD ;)
Maybe MS has included some specific Context Menu calling method throught non-registry based interface ...

I am writing this because I was quite p*ssed with MS Alt-Tab Replacement Powertoy which was totally incompatable with custom themes ... no using TaskSwitchX 2.0 ...

what do you mean with "comptatability with MS PowerToy for CMD" ? like to also support the blur background on it ?

Ah - another two thiongs -
1. DirectX version ?.? Bluring ...
2. Would not It be nore easier to make cmd.exe themed ( enable themes in it ) rather than manipulation with exe itself?

The point is that I am now using SevenVG RC1 (v1.2) theme and it has W7-like look. I would prefer theme-enabled cmd.exe, not already themed one...

Anyway - think of this and keep up the good work!

directx blurring is a new technique i will be using with a dll from one of my new friends on the internet, and it is much much faster than the current, the thing is cmd is a protected system window, i can't change it's style, i can't hook it painting messages, i just can't affect it with anything, all i can do is taking it into my form and make it transparent, i know it's annoying to have like a shell, but it is the only way ;).

HMMM, When we could see cmd v2, ~komalo?

Dont, D.O.N.T forget to add minimize, close title buttons and filename in the apps caption.

If these three bugs would not have been, I would use your cmd sheel right now ... but these three bugs stopped me from Replacing ...

Is this cmd shell just reshacked or fully coded in C/Delphi/VB/Java-kind ?

very soon ;), the problem is that i am developing it with the vista version and Border Skin, so it gets confusing sometimes, you will see it fully usable, not like the current version, i was just showing that it can be done, and this actually is a cmd shell with my own background form
