USS Federation Data Sheet

After the crippling of numerous Columbia Class Perimeter Action Ships near the Romulan/Federation Neutral Zone by unknown attackers, and the increasing hostility of the Klingon Empire (including a build up of D7 variants) Starfleet began a military build up program in 2264. By 2265 the first prototype Federation Class Dreadnoughts were on shake-down trial voyages (the first four being former Columbia class ships that were repaired, refit, and modified into Federation Class ships). Using the Columbia class family of ships as the basis for the design (a family dating back to the Earth-Romulan War before the Federation) Starfleet was able to field over a dozen of these Dreadnoughts quickly to meet the challenge of the newly encountered Romulan Bird of Prey in 2266 by U.S.S. Enterprise. While the Achernar class of Constitution class was able to absorb a few of the new Romulan Plasma Torpedoes with her shields, the Federation class' shields were capable of handling multiple plasma torpedo hits. This level of shield protection was possible due to the third warp-engine of the ship generating one-third more power than that of the Achernar class. The increased power also allowed the Federation class to support a Phaser-beam array of 34-phaser beam emitters giving the ship 360-degree coverage. The speed of the Dreadnought was also faster than that of the Achernar class and ANY Klingon or Romulan ship of the era.

Impressive. Seems your variant of the class weeded out nearly all the really weird original design elements. Even the flaw of boring a drive plasma conduit through the dorsal has been fixed.

Does it have a shuttle bay?

Hello:

I like how your custom lore for the ship easily explains where the design came from and why so many could be build with relative ease.

Thank you, Chiletrek.

I wanted a proper starship/technology evolution for my Star Trek Classic Universe. Unlike STD/Picard/Lower Decks I want continuity and uniformity in how Starfleet recycles designs for as long as they can. With the level of technology in Star Trek (matter manipulation) it is not far-fetched to assume they would keep successful starship designs in service for as long as possible. Therefore, I chose to use the Pioneer class family of large-scale starships for my Dreadnought design.

so basically its a REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEFIT.

Actually, last night, I watched a video about what Starfleet does with older designs and how they indeed like to refit and upgrade them for as long as possible, and how they bring back older designs in times of crisis. So your idea makes total sense as it keeps the style of Starfleet.

I am still in a non-Di$ney Star Wars mood, but I've been thinking about how I want to work with Starfleet asnd I thought of taking a new route myself, my idea is to separate the defense/combat ships from science ships, so to make Starfleet more "militarized" (as it was during the TMP era) and giving civilian organizations a much greater role and very modern ships. If you want I can explain more in notes :)

Thank you, Chiletrek.

I'm done with Star Wars period and all new Star Trek.

I'm focusing on the quality stuff from the 1960s to early 2000s basically ST:TOS to ST:ENT.

You are welcome! :)

Well, my idea of Star Trek is for one of my mini-game mods and I wanted to do something different than most others, but it would be my own extrapolation from ST:ENT.

Even so Kodai I'd really like to see your take on a FASA style USS Vengeance like this one:

(but with a name that makes sense lol) ALSO all those D7 variants you mentioned building-up.
