Light in the Storm by Kobb Light in the Storm by Kobb
I have been stuck in a stubborn artblock for a while now
(the only thing I've been able to draw without hating it is the occasional Lucius |: ).

And I have tons of other obligations and projects I have to attend to, so today I sat down and was hoping to try and break the block with some digital painting.

This is Rudolph being epic in a blizzard. I've been wanting to do an epic reindeer picture for a couple weeks. XD

Here's to the weakening of art blocks, I hope! :ahoy:

Until I read the description I thought it was a deer smoking! Nice work, anyway.

I've never understood how anyone can paint without having an inking to paint inside, or even without the use of lineart at all :o

Very good work!

Hell YES! This is totally how Santa's reindeer should always be drawn - none o' that Bambi-with-a-clown-nose bullshit. :D

I just love how dark and cool this looks; it's amazing how you made a character in a cute kids' song so easy to take seriously. It looks just like a piece of concept art for an epic traditionally animated movie about Rudolph. That'd be a movie I'd watch every Christmas, and you would HAVE to be the one to direct it. :+favlove:

Aw, thanks. I know I want to do something with these reindeer designs and story snatches I keep playing around with, but I have yet to figure out what. Always makes me happy to see people enjoying what I do come up with. :>

And yes, the clown nose approach has always bothered me. I didn't mind it in the stop-motion show (it had to light up!), but now everyone does it that way.

I've seen your designs and personalities for Santa's reindeer as well, and I love them. :D I put way too much thought into what those guys would be like as a kid, so it's nice to know I'm not alone ^^;

 Plus I think colour TV was *relatively* new at that time, so it'd make sense if they were eager to show off what they could do; I've heard that's the same reason Dorothy's silver slippers from the book became ruby slippers. But yeah, it bugs me when people pick one source of ideas instead of being inspired by lesser-known stuff, or better yet, coming up with something new :hmm:

Epic being the best word to explain this piece, it's interesting to see Rudolph in a more serious styled setting, rather then a "kiddy" sense.

Excellent brush style, love the glowyness against the dark blizzard!

I'm guessing this is Rudolph from the old claymated show?
X3
This makes me feel warm and fuzzy.

As for the painting - I think your colors are working, it FEELS cold.
Really nice designing with your brush strokes. This is really nice and painty - especially coming from Photoshop. You've always controlled your core shadows and bounce light really nicely, so no complaints there.
^_^

Now get that art-block outta there! Rah! Rah!

The claymated special is still my favorite. :> I have my own version that I've been playing with, but it definitely has its roots in that special, fo'sho'. *has the sudden urge to look up those old notes*

ALSO: thankyou for critiquing :>>>
