Sonya sighs softly as she sits inside the building overlooking the farming lands in Rivercross Acres. Staying out of the sun for now to rest so she can prepare for a night of guarding the crops from thieves. She looks watching her teammate Yang who's out in the fields now helping to water the plants.

Yang walking to the nearby watering hole and using her Hidden Power ability of Psychic she gathers the water up in the air as a big blob.

Her green eyes glowing out as she uses her power and carefully floats the water blob towards the crops. Once it's over head of the now planted seeds, with a quick swipe of her paw the water blob stretches out thin then explodes in a shower of droplets. Making it rain on the crops below.

Yang looking happy and satisfied that it worked. Once the water has all fallen, she kneels on the damp ground. Not minding getting dirty at all. She’s about to start gently patting the dirt to make sure the seeds are secure in their place.

She gasps softly as one of the seeds had shifted out of the dirt and using her Hidden Power Psychic floats it up to her paw. She smiles to it softly as the seed had already started to sprout a stem with a tiny leaf at the end.

On the other said her a shiny Ralts walks with a few seeds of her own floating in the air. She kneels like Yang and begins to set each seed in the soil. Yang following suit as she returns the seed she had back to the soil.

In another section a few rows down from Yang and the Ralts, an Excadrill can be seen digging up the dirt for them. Although he seems to be either too excited or can’t see straight as every often he’ll run in to things, go out of a straight line, or almost accidently run in to other pokemon helping to tend the fields.

Sonya watches her teammate with a small content smile. Seeing Yang is having a pretty good time helping out to plant new crops.

A few firm footsteps heading her way makes Sonya turn her head to see who's approaching. Seeing the tall, sturdy form of Sinclair the Agron.

She stops in front of Sonya who turns to face her. "So your one of the volunteers who choose to watch the crops tonight?"

"Yes ma'am." Sonya says. "Only me."

Sinclair looks curious to her. "Aren't there two of you? Are you sure you wish to guard at night alone?"

"My comrade is to catch a transport to Mosswood to help with the epidemic spreading there. She's been working all day watering the crops so she'll be too tired to stay up tonight to guard them with me. She'll go ahead of me while I make sure her and everyone else's hard work here doesn't go to waste." Sonya answers confidently with a passive face.

Sinclair still looks uncertain, but the clear cut way Sonya's tone came out tells her they already made up their mind. "Alright, if you insist. Come see me when your shift is about to start."

Sonya nods to her as Sinclair walks off. Sonya's eyes lowering as she feels a bit bad. Already deciding to send Yang off to Mosswood first, but Sonya hasn't told her friend yet.

Sonya sighs as she walks out of the building to the fields to confront her teammate.

Yang has some dirt on parts of her face, arms, and legs but she doesn't seem to mind at all as she and the shiny Ralts named Nodoka, who Yang and Sonya met briefly before they came to Rivercross and started to get to know, work to plant the seeds carefully.

Sonya frowns troubled, knowing Yang won't like what she's about to say but Sonya knows she needs to be stern on this. She walks up next to her while she's patting down soil on a seed.

"Yang."

Yang perks up at her name and looks seeing Sonya. She claps off the dirt from her paws and stands up to face her teammate. "Hey Sonya. You know you really should be helping out. I know your not a morning person but it's really fun." Yang says softly but excitedly. This bringing a smile to Sonya as she watches Yang speak normally than stuttering or being nervous.

Usually she only shows this side when she's dancing or singing, so Sonya knows she's having a good time.

Her smile goes away as she recalls again why she came again.

"Listen Yang, you should go ahead to Mosswood to help with that epidemic once your done here. They've been asking for people to go help and I think you'd be a great help."

Yang looks surprised while wiping her face with her paw. Smearing some more dirt on her face but she doesn’t mind as she looks concerned to Sonya who for once, starts to feel nervous.

"Huh? But why? You'd be more help there than me." Yang says motioning to her bell earring.

Sonya sighs through her nose. "I've already volunteered to stay one night here to guard the crops."

Yang's shoulders tense up at the mention of the other task the Keepers asked for. On instinct she brings her paws together nervously. Sonya feeling bad since this was what she wanted to avoid. Yang was having a nice time for once and she just ruined it.

"Listen it's alright." She begins as she stands on her hind legs and walks in front of Yang putting a paw on her shoulder reassuringly. "It's only a few thieves and stragglers. I can handle this one on my own. Just take the next transport to Mosswood and I'll catch up after. This way you have a head start and can inform me what’s going on when I arrive."

Yang now looks ashamed. Deep down she wishes to argue with Sonya about staying and helping her. The fact Sonya will be here almost all night alone with the chance of bandits coming making her worried for her safety. Even if she knows she can hold her own just fine.

Yet, the thought of coming across another bandit so soon again makes Yang know she will only have a repeat of what happened last time.

Sonya can tell this doesn't sit well with Yang even if she won't say it out loud. She smiles softly to her teammate, "Yang calm down. It's ok."

Yang looks to her sadly and apologetic. "I-I'm sorry."

"Don't be. Yang I've known you for so long to know you always have my back. And I'll always have yours. You’re not leaving me behind to fend for myself. I choose to do this." Sonya says sternly so she shows Yang she's serious and it's not her fault. Not that it helps Yang feel completely better, but it does reassure her since Sonya is only doing this because she cares.

Yang sighs softly then nods to Sonya. "O-Ok...."

Sonya smiles sadly but relieved, then stands back. "The transport will take you and other teams to Mosswood. I'll try to be there by morning or in the afternoon." Sonya says then turns to walk back to take a nap for tonight.

"Sonya."

She stops and turns when Yang calls her.

"T-Thank you....B-Be careful...."

Sonya smiles and nods before continuing off to find a place to nap.

Yang smiles back softly. Though once Sonya is out of sight does her smile go away and she frowns sadly.

--

Sonya looks a bit upset at having ruined Yang's happy mood. Knowing Yang would feel bad and useless when she suggested she go to Mosswood. Yet Sonya only did that so she could use her skills where they're needed and that is to help those who are sick.

She also did it to protect Yang as she knows her teammate and friend still can't get over her past with the bandits. Even mentioning there might be one makes her tense up and Sonya already knows she'll just freeze up like she did with Xavier if she runs in to one again. Her freezing up will put her in danger again and Sonya wil do what she can to prevent that.

Sonya frowns a bit as a thought passes in her head.

Our pasts...

She almost feels hypocritical. Trying to protect Yang and help her get away from her past. Yet it seems she herself hasn't forgotten her own. The fight with the male shiny Eevee named Nox coming back to her as her frown deepens.

Thoughts of her past making her hesitate and lose the match. Almost similar in the situation with Yang and Xavier.

She was lost in thought that she didn't even notice another Pokemon until they bumped each other.

Sonya looks a bit surprised as she didn't notice at all, lost in her unsure thoughts, and was about to open her mouth to apologize but stops once she noticed who she bumped in to.

Her eyes widen in surprise as before her is the said Eevee who she was just thinking about. Seeing Nox in front of her with his grey short fur and blue scarf wrapped around hs neck.

After realization hits Sonya, she narrows her eyes a bit and takes a few steps back away from him. Putting a bit of distance between then so they're not too close.

Great. First I hurt Yangs feelings and now I bump in to him again. Fantastic... she thinks sarcastically.

Yang being happy and comfortable is what I live for. She deserves it sooo much. Great writing once again!
