The Outcasts

Capturing the Elk Rut in Colorado's Rocky Mountain National Park has always been a highlight of Autumn photography for me, photographers from all over come to photograph it. These are Bulls which are essentially "Outcasts" that probably lost in a challenge from on the head Bulls for females. It was something to watch and observe these 2 for quite awhile, while the King of the Harem would come and chase them out. The one on the right, he was a big one, and I was expecting him to start challenging the King at any second.

What was funny was how these 2 interacted...it was friend one second and foe the next, and I did manage to shoot some pretty interesting photos of their body language showing one another who is dominant.

I hope you all like it!
---John

Nice focus. The background almost looks tilt-shifted - like a model of the countryside...

Interesting information you supplied. It explains your title! I like the shot... All of the browns don't drown the photo but lift it up.
