The Mountain King

Thanks everybody for the feedback, favs and shares, I do have prints available, check out my shop here on dA!
The peaks of the Colorado Rockies in Rocky Mountain National Park & "The Shark's Tooth" brace for the coming snow storm on a autumn morning as clouds begin to roll in.
How I got the photograph--To get the shot I used a Sigma 170-500mm lens backed up by my Sony A77 on my tripod. Over the years I have really come to love photographing landscapes with a really long lens, generally at 400mm or greater. Often called "compression landscapes", it opens up a whole other world for your photographer in that you can photograph what the human eye literally can't see (sort of like how macro photography lets you see tiny details) Often times I will photograph an image like that using my regular landscape lens and then bolt on my 500 to see what else might be there, looking for the best composition and lighting. In this photograph, I really wanted to get a lot closer to the clouds which were beginning to cover the peaks while the lighting, though subtle, was still dramatic in the forest below.
