Horses In The Storm

While storm chasing on the eastern plains of Colorado this past spring, we happened upon this scene. I imagine that these Horses are quite used to this sort of weather out here where the afternoons showcase some of the most violent weather on earth. It was pretty amazing really to see them all standing out here in ranch land backed up by a severe thunderstorm that was heading towards them. It certainly made for quite the dramatic scene and one needless to say I had to photograph it using my Sony a550 & Minolta 18-200mm lens.

Absolutely stunning photo with great clarity and balance... how wide did you go to capture this? They're not distorted at all so my guess is around 50mm?

Storms are that fear-inducing kind of beauty but certainly great photo subjects. If you don't mind me asking what shutter speed and aperture do you think is best for capturing storm clouds?

Well it depends really what you are trying to accomplish. If you are talking lightning shots then usually around 30 seconds is good. If you want the movement of the clouds, something like this [link] then you want to go around a minute or so.
