[Adaptation] Chapter 3 - Painting the Town Red
Chapter 3 Painting the Town Red Atticus trekked back to the cave without incident. The sun had finally started peeking out from behind the clouds, so the weather was much more agreeable. Still, he wasn't very fond of the hidden puddles thoroughly soaking his paws. Water, he always thought, wasn't really for him. He made a poor water-type that way—a pour water-type, even. The thoughts of his own puns boosted his spirits somewhat. He hesitated on the other side of the bushes, letting them obscure his view. In the clearing, he could hear Myu and Topaz talking. Topaz was begging her not to leave. Right, Myu had a job now. Pretty bold for someone like her, but it wasn’t as if he would be any better suited, nor was he going to be picked for such a thing any time soon, either. He heard Myu say, “... But I would rather not leave you alone... Who knows what could happen to you while I'm gone.” “Something could happen?” Topaz squeaked. Atticus rubbed his snout with one of his whiskers. It

Chapter 2 Mingling With Monsters The next day was dreary and wet. Heavy gray clouds hung over the mountains and spread far far over the valley, stretching as far and beyond Myu’s old home many miles away. The area they had lived in was now quiet and empty, its residents recently vacated. Beloved trinkets such as books, records, pretty rocks, and old notes remained where they had been left. It had only been a day. It was as though nothing were amiss. In the middle of the clearing that Myu and her mother had once set up their beds on clear nights for stargazing, a lone zoroark lay deeply unconscious. As the morning waned, she slowly began to rouse, the ground becoming more and more noticeable as it was more and more obvious how uncomfortable it was to sleep on. The wind gusting through the trees overhead was getting progressively harder to ignore, and so she finally opened her eyes. The world spun round and round in nauseating circles. She squeezed her eyes shut. It was an uneasy

[Adaptation] Chapter 1 - Things Change
Prologue "Mom…?" The night, quiet and serene, was considered by many in the region of Alliair to be a sacred time if the skies were clear. The stars were a glimpse at creation itself, distant specks that proved the universe breathed, and was alive. The night was when this was most spectacularly seen. Dreams weaved themselves in and out of Clara's head as the dusk cradled the world gently. In her dreams, she was free from worry. The world was made for her kind in these distant visions she held, sleeping soundly until the dawn called forth and illuminated their reality. "Mama…?" All comforts have to end. Clara stirred awake at her daughter’s quiet urging, blinking away the remnants of sleep. Her daughter, Myu, looked down, unsure of how to proceed, her bottom lip quivering slightly. "What is the matter, Myu?" Myu fidgeted, pressing the tips of her fingers together. "I’m scared…" "What of?" Myu looked down again, her blue eyes glittering with tears. "Of monsters… I had a bad
