Heard that OCtane is hands down better than every rendering engine on the market because it can compete with StudioMax and Softimage XSI.

Yeah, I've seen some really nice work done with Octane. Never saved up and bought it, though. I still haven't learned all the tricks with the ones I have!

The one with legit programmable shading gotta win ;D

Until Iray can do special effects along the same lines as the pwShader series, I'm at least doing one pass in 3DL - even if there are no special effects in the image.  I love the ease of lighting in Iray, but the colors just aren't as "alive" as I want for my artwork.

I think that's my goal for this weekend, making a composite image with both renderers. I always forget to try!

Iray!  For ages I wanted to do stuff that I couldn't do in 3delight.

I still haven't decided... but Iray's what I've been using most lately. It's fun.

3DLight, mainly because I don't yet have a decent enough nVidia video card to try out Iray, and I'm not really fond of using plugins and external rendering engines.

Iray's fun, easier than Lux, but I'm not sure which I like best yet. I'd just started feeling competent with 3Delight when Iray came out.

I'm going to have to learn Iray for a project I'm working on, and I'll be looking at SickleYield's tutorials to do it.

It's a lot of fun! Hope you enjoy. :D

I'll have to learn how lighting and such is done all over again, like I had to with 3Dlight.

Yeah, same here. But what I've experimented with has been fairly easy to work with so far. It's the shaders getting me.

Well, I'm having issues on my 8 year old system. Guess I will have to update the hardware before I can use Iray, which I plan to do soon anyway.

Yeah, I hear you. My current system is five, and it needed an upgrade before iray became faster than overnight. And sometimes over day as well.

Octane Render because of its unbiased nature... the work methods (materials/lighting) are very natural and similar to real-life photography.

Octane makes beautiful renders. I've never tried it, got too many to play with already...
