Jackie Robinson was an American professional baseball second baseman who became the first African American to play in Major League Baseball in the modern era. Robinson got signed on with the Montreal Royals (a minor league professional baseball team in Montreal, Quebec, from 1897–1917 and 1928–1960). The the Montreal Royals holds a unique place in baseball history for being the first major-league affiliate to break the so-called "baseball colour barrier" when they signed on Robinson for the 1964 season.
