Hello I'm René Westerveld, or Kitsumeo here. I studied Animation (mostly 2D) for 8 years, until life happened. Lost some important people in my life during my last year of study and after I graduated, I disconnected from my passion. While a new passion for writing was discovered, I missed expressing myself through art. 5 years passed where I felt a little lost until my love for animation rekindled. On August 2019, I picked up my pencil again and started drawing, half an hour I told myself, and I did. The next day I did the same, and the day after, and the day after, until I started to feel slightly more confident. I have been drawing almost every day ever since. In March 2020 I joined Steve Ahn's drawing workshop and forced myself to work digitally again, a step I felt anxious to take after all those years. The start was rough, especially with the weekly intensive assignments, but in the end I made some nice steps and learned a lot. I still have lots to work on but this workshop surely opened my eyes and brought me another step closer to working digitally again. While I think I surpassed my drawing skills from five years ago, I still have much to improve on and I keep working on getting better and more confident. Another step I have yet to take is getting back into animating my work. I feel, I'm almost ready but need a little more time and look forward to facing this last obstacle. Ultimately I hope to reach my dream, which is to draw and animate in a Legend of Korra style and to inspire others with my work.
Wishing you all the best, and to never give up on your passion or dreams, René
