Prologue | Kithood | Apprenticeship | Adulthood

A One-Sided Affair
It all started with a blizzard.

Ursa, a Chi Master of WaterClan, an ex-Purist and the sister to her current Chief had always been unfortunate with love. However, when she met Lunar, never would she have imagined what fate would have in store for her. At first the meetings were a little shaky. Over time however, a bond began to form as Lunar visited her often, bearing prey as gifts or wanting to simply chat. As this continued, old butterflies from the past came back to haunt Ursa as she developed feelings for the tom that kept her company. Before long the trust formed between the two was strong enough for them to engage in their pasts; as Ursa retold her tale as a Purist, Lunar would return it with talks of his brother and mother, both long gone into the spirit realm.

Soon typical conversations turned into wondering outside of the camp together, often swimming with one another, all the while Ursa growing more and more head over heels for the tom she had befriended. Sadly, the warrior is confused by these overwhelming feelings, and instead of admitting to them, she keeps them a secret from everyone, including her family. All the while her feelings grew stronger each passing day, especially when Lunar comments that her scars are beautiful.

Not knowing how to deny her feelings further, it was only a matter of time before Ursa began to undergo the betrothal process, taking it upon herself to make the necklace she so desired to give this wonderful tom. Of course, Glacia eventually stumbled upon her doing this, her hearing acute from years of not being able to see due to her blindness. Thus she became the first cat to hear about her sister's new love interest. However, because of this, Ursa decides to hide the necklace for over a year and half. During that time, nothing much changes between her and Lunar. Only...

One day sudden unexpected nausea erupted from within Ursa. Unsure of what it was, she could only think about visiting the Healer, only to hear shocking news: she was expecting kittens. Lunar's kittens.

The urge to tell him strong in her now, the she-cat seeks him out. Yet, before she can even tell him, Lunar tells her news of his own: the she-cat he had been pining after, a childhood crush, had finally accepted his feelings by betrothing him, the necklace he now bore around his neck the only evidence needed. Heartbroken, Ursa remains his friend, but at the same time she tasks her beloved sister to toss the unfinished betrothal necklace she had kept hidden for so long into the lake, never to be seen again.

The months were daunting as her belly grew and signs of new life kicked inside of her. Ursa remained persistent, but the sadness inside of her was known. Which was why one day she decided to go near the AirClan borders to escape her Clan and Lunar. Besides, her nieces were over there too. That was when she felt a sharp pain in her stomach, soon followed by another. Her kits were coming, and they weren't going to wait.

Fortunately for Ursa, she wasn't alone when she gave birth. She had her sisters with her, alongside the healer, Shiver. After a long and gruelling process did the old warrior soon find herself with two healthy little tom's snuggled into her warm belly, suckling for her milk. Already having decided on their names ages ago, she promptly names one Sunset and the other Moon.

Butterflies and Lily Pads
For the first few weeks of his life, Moon knew little to nothing of what happened before hand. Even the Eye Opening ceremony that took place when he and his brother first opened their eyes in order to be introduced to La, an event he is too young to remember. However, it's a detail he is often reminded about whenever he raises the question to Ursa. Often the she-cat would tell him how he mewed in protest at being dunked into the cold water, only to remain silent in it for a few moments before being pulled out of the spot. It was also common for her to bring up how La had accepted him and his brother, and that she was proud. However... it was also then did his mother inform him about how Sunset's dunking had a slight difference to it. In slight difference, it was more due to the fact he showed signs of moving water a little. Nothing major for a kit his age, but the tell tale signs were clear: his brother was gifted by La to be a bender, just like their uncle was. What little Moon fails to realise from this however is the fact that he doesn't possess such a gift. Instead, he adamantly believes that his bending will come later, that he is a late bloomer compared to his beloved sibling. After all, what kit doesn't want to control water?

Furthermore, he was made to be unaware as to why he lacked a father figure in his life, let alone who he was too. Ursa had decided long ago not to tell her sons about Lunar until they were old enough to understand. As for Moon, well, he couldn't care less. He is a kit after all, and all that matters to him is pleasing his mother, as well as staying by Sunset's side forever. Oh and admiring any water-bender from afar.
