HERE COME THE FEELS.
This is related to this RP
Charlie's mind was still reeling with adrenaline, her body actually aching from the pace she'd set for the two of them. She couldn't believe what Khalil had done; she was both proud and angry at him for doing what he did, after all he'd saved them. She looked over at the panting boy, her hand still gripping his own tightly, "Khalil....don't ever....do that again, y-you coulda...g-gotten hurt!" Charlie was scolding the boy though she did appreciate what he had done but, she just...she was in shock. She needed to calm down, remember to breathe. Just breathe, she thought as she took in several deep breaths.
Even though he was trying not to be a burden, he had only succeeded at making Charlie worry. She was right. That was a reckless gamble, downright stupid. It was a fluke that he had managed to catch the man's arm. If he hadn't... both he and Charlie would have been hurt. If the others who had surrounded them hadn't frozen out of sheer surprise, they wouldn't have gotten out of there. "...Sorry," Khalil apologized again, his voice barely above a whisper.
Charlie glanced over at Khalil, her heart cracking at the sight of the dejected boy. She sighed softly and gently pulled Khalil to her, releasing his hand so that she could hug him tight. Her voice was quiet but kind as she spoke, "Khalil, it's okay...you...you did good, you were very brave...heh you saved us both and those kids! I couldn't have done that, I just...I'm sorry for yelling at you...You did good Khalil, you did good."
Khalil felt his face flush. To his surprise, there were tears welling up in his wide eyes. Why? Why was he getting this overwhelming rush of emotion? Maybe he was just too tired, and everything had just caught up with him...
Was his flesh-and-blood family on the outside...ever this warm to him?
Charlie's eyes stung with unshed tears, her body trembling slightly as the girl prolonged the hug, forgetting that she could be hurting Khalil. That her touch could be unwanted. She just..she needed to hug him, needed to do something more than her words could. Her voice was quiet, nothing but a whisper as she spoke, "Khalil, if anything happened to you...I don't know what I'd do." With that said, Charlie pulled back, releasing her hold on the younger boy, her smile broken but still present, her eyes watery with emotion.
Fighting back his own tears, Khalil tried to smile back. "I'll try to be more careful." He couldn't keep his voice from cracking over the lump in his throat. This is so frustrating. Why can't I protect my friends...without making them worry? I want to be stronger.
I could visualize this scene really vividly, so I had to draw it. Hope you like!
