-THE ORIGINAL-
"Simdragon" as this guy was previously referred to, had a VERY different role. I wouldn't necessarily say more important, because although he was the second-in-command to the series' longtime villain...he came off as being kind of a waste. I'll admit, he had a few fun fight scenes throughout the series' first two seasons, but his story had nothing to it. I don't think I ever even established his motives or sense of loyalty to the hacker boss, "Voltarius". When I was redesigning the original characters from TvTome Adventures, Simdragon was actually one that I completely forgot about until later, which goes to show you how forgettable he was in the long-run.

-THE NEW-
...BUT THEN, a sudden lightning bolt of inspiration struck. I loved the use of role-playing characters in the new series, particularly with Nylocke. However, the thought of a role-playing rival came to mind for our gallant dragon...what if it were someone ACTING like a villain! When I decided to make the Nylocke short, it was the perfect opportunity to use such a character. "But who would it be?" I thought. initially what came to mind was a big Gannondorf-esque brute with a booming voice. Then it hit me...Simdragon WAS practically Nylocke's rival in the original series! So, since I had decided to leave him out of the hacker group this time around, feeling there was no need for a second-in-command, I thought that making him a more "harmless" villain would be suiting! His and Nylocke's exaggerations and knack for storytelling in the heat of battle complemented each other perfectly. I had a fun time writing their banter in the Nylocke short, especially having Serpentine (as I decided to re-title him) using such poetic wordplay coupled with Steven Kelly's DEAD-ON Tim Curry impression. Some other ideas in mind for Serpentine's voice were something along the lines of Gaston from Beauty & The Beast or the Ghost Host from Disney's Haunted Mansion, but Steven's Tim Curry impression ended up being the funniest and most impressive performance. The throwback to Simdragon's classic "FOOLISH!" line came 100 times more natural the Serpentine's portrayal. Although this doofus may not be involved with the main storyline, he's proving to be a fun distraction.

So what would happen if he and Nylocke met IRL? I mean, their animosity towards each other is nothing more than just roleplaying, right?

I really hope we meet some good or anti-hero hackers at some point in this series. One of the big downsides of the original was that it substituted "generic bad guy" with "hacker", when Hacker Culture is so much more varied and complex than just messing up a game or cracking someone's email.

Just a suggestion! Comparing this to TTA shows that you're definitely improving, and TOME looks like it has a lot of potential, but it can't do that by being just an updated version of the same story. I have no clue whether or not that's your intention, I just wanna get out what I think of how this show's been going so far.

And I'm not sure if this means much or if you've heard this too many times to count, but I'm really looking forward to your future work, especially TOME. Keep it up.

Also, in terms of future TOME plots, have you heard of the Corrupted Blood Incident that happened in WoW back in 2005? I think that could applied really well to the story, even if it's a side-story or a prequel.

I wonder if Serpentine will assist the hackers once in a while, like Sk8boi helped Simdragon in TTA season 1.

Did Sk8boi do anything of value for them? I really never saw much point in him...being there.

If I remember correctly, during the Z-Tournament, Simdragon wanted Alpha out of the tournament. He thinks the best way to do that is kidnap Flamegirl. Simdragon and the D-Bug Org want Alpha's forbidden power, so get him out of the tournament and he could get him. First, Alpha needed a reason to leave so Sim gets Sk8rboi to help him kidnap Flamey, then Alpha would show up.

This didn't work obviously. Simdragon plan was foiled by Alpha's friends, Sk8rboi was defeated in the tournament by Flamegirl and all was good... for a while.

If I'm wrong, then go see the episode on Newgrounds and we'll both learn something. I'd do it right now, except I'm a little busy.

That's another thing I want this reboot to avoid...kidnapping Flamegirl all the damn time. And also give a bit more personality than has been seen...

From what I've seen, TOME's Flamegirl is tougher than TTA's Flamegirl.

Surely you've noticed TOME's version has more leadership quality than the TTA version.

Remember, TTA's Flamegirl started out weak and later became strong.

TOME's Flamegirl started out strong.

Right, and that's good that she's established as someone who can handle herself as opposed to being the damsel in distress, but where does her character go from here? Gamecrazed's got his issues, Kirb's got his inferiority complex, Nylocke has to deal with Serpentine and his roleplaying, and Alpha's learning to control "The Forbidden Power".

So, what personal conflict or journey does Flamy have to overcome?

Maybe she'll think about what Ravenfreak said. She'll probably think of that anytime a hacker reacts to Alpha's presence.

And then she'll find out what it is at the same time as the rest of the group and that'll be the end of that

O.K I do admit that the design revamp is cool, the voice was good, but the fact that he is another RP nut is what turned me off to Serpentine. No offense or anything really, Kirb.
