Hallway and Lighting

After some critique I decided to redo all the rooms I started, and this is the first I've finished (upstairs hallway). Below the "map" you can see how it looks in game, both with lighting from the lantern off (left) and on (right).

Aside from making it easier to see, when the lantern is on, no random battles will occur. The next system I want to design is a chase one, where a monster can follow you from one map to another. I don't even know how to start, so any assistance is appreciated
