Lovecraft - Dimensional Shambler II

The previous one was fine, why change it?

Well, for a certain reason.  The creature's skin is extremely loose and hanging; The wearer was a very skilled taxidermist so I assumed that the creature must have much less humanoid proportions than I once imagined. Otherwise, he'd manage to make it look better. it's quite obvious that the creature is a case of bad taxidermy boredomtherapy.com/bad-taxider… ) Rather than actually having human proportions.

"Shuffling toward him in the darkness was the gigantic, blasphemous form of a black thing not wholly ape and not wholly insect. Its hide hung loosely upon its frame, and its rugose, dead-eyed rudiment of a head swayed drunkenly from side to side. Its fore paws were extended, with talons spread wide, and its whole body was taut with murderous malignity despite its utter lack of facial expression."

"Coward—you could never face the dimensional shambler whose hide I put on to scare you—the mere sight of it alive, or even the full-fledged thought of it, would kill you instantly with fright!

The man wearing the hide of this -thing ! Other than that one depiction - no use conjecturing more.

The hide was seemingly rather loose on this guy, suggesting it was originally different in size, or shape. Or both as he was a skilled taxidermist and probably could have removed more minor inconsistencies.

Same here. I've loved the phrase "dimensional shambler" for years but haven't read the story. Not reading the story though let me develop a lot of my own ideas about what they look like and why they transdimensionally  shamble.

Fortunately, The story doesn't explain anything about them! It does reveal that Tsathoggua has very extreme shape-shifting capabilities though.

:) I know what you mean...but it's important to go to the original source, and compare your impressions with the author's vision.

I shall read that tale today--here's the book in which I have it:   For Chamjari... by Chaosfive-55

I have that book. Some stories are 99.99+% pure Lovecraft.

You know it's funny because this is one of those stories that either I've never read as of yet or that I have but I don't remember (yeah, I'm that burnt) but if the creature wears skin (human skin), I find that ironic since it sort of connects with Banshee Chapter --sort of. Great creature design btw.

In the story actual creature does not appear, just a man wears its skin. Some representatoions follow the description too closely making it look i.pinimg.com/736x/94/a6/27/94a… like a badly taxidermized animal - in this case almost exactly boredomtherapy.com/wp-content/… :D

The lack of imagination separates the art from the craft.
