After everyone stared at Sunspot, still firmly stuck in the den’s opening, we all began brainstorming solutions. The air was thick with determination—and a little bit of frustration.

Plan A: Pull him out.

I looked at Sunspot, who was trying again to wiggle free, bracing his chubby dragon feet against the walls of Buddy’s den. I clenched my fists and grabbed a sturdy rope. “Okay, everyone! On the count of three—we pull!” I shouted.

“Ready!” Buddy, Nebula, Griff, Sunstorm, Clay, and even Xoa nodded, gripping the rope tightly.

“One… two… three… PULL!”

We all tugged with all our might. Sunspot wobbled but didn’t move. The den’s walls creaked slightly, but he was still stuck. We all groaned in unison.

“Hmm,” I said, rubbing my chin. “That didn’t work. Time for Plan B.”

Plan B: Dig him out with shovels.*

Buddy hesitated. “Uh… I don’t think I can dig him out. That den’s roots are pretty deep, and I don’t want to damage my home.”

“Come on, Buddy! We’re so close!” Nebula urged.

But Buddy shook his head. “Sorry, Aiden. I can’t risk wrecking my den. We need another idea.”

I sighed. “Alright, then. Plan C—the slippery solution.”

“Make him slippery and pull him out,” I explained. “We’ll grab some butter or soap, pour it around him, and then pull him free. Easy peasy.”

“Wouldn’t Sunspot just eat the butter?” Buddy asked, raising an eyebrow.

“Good point,” I admitted. “Then soap it is.”

Soon, we had a bucket of soap and a sponge. I carefully poured the soap around Sunspot’s hips, coat after coat, making sure he was well-slathered. Sunspot squirmed but was too busy trying to push himself free to complain.

“Alright, everyone ready?” I asked.

“We are!” they all chorused.

“On the count of three,” I said. “One… two… three—pull!”

We all tugged again, this time with a little more oomph. Sunspot’s chubby body finally gave way with a loud *POP!* and he tumbled out of the hole, landing with a soft thud on the den floor.

Sunspot blinked, covered in soap, but he was free. He looked up at us with a big, grateful smile. “Thanks, everyone,” he said, his voice squeaky from the soap. “That was… quite the adventure.”

Everyone cheered, and Sunspot sat up, shaking off the soap bubbles. Nebula nudged him gently with her snout, and Sol snuggled close to his dad, both sharing a happy moment of relief.

“Aw, Sun,” I said, pulling him into a hug. “You’re one tough dragon—even if you do get a little stuck sometimes.”

Sunspot chuckled, bubbles still clinging to his chin. “Best birthday ever.”

The others gathered around him, sharing hugs and laughs. Hanz grinned, “Well, at least we know how to get Sun out now—soap and teamwork!”

Clay looked at his dad and his friends, a small smile playing on his face. “We’re a pretty great team, huh?”

Xoa, who had been quietly observing, nodded. “Sometimes, you just need a little patience and a lot of soap.”

As the sun began to set, casting a warm glow over the den, we all settled in for cake and stories. Sunspot’s belly was still a little shiny from the soap, but he was happy, surrounded by friends who’d do anything to help him—stuck or not.

And from that day on, we knew—no matter how sticky or tricky things got, we’d always find a way to pull through together.

As everyone settled down, the mood shifted from chaos to camaraderie. Sunspot, now squeaky clean and smiling ear to ear, looked around at his friends and family with a twinkle of mischief in his eyes.

“You know,” Sunspot said with a grin, “next year, I’m going to be extra careful about what I eat. No more giant salmon and cake in one day. Or maybe I’ll just get even bigger—then I’ll be impossible to stick in any den!”

Everyone burst into laughter, even Buddy, who shook his head with a chuckle.

“That’s the spirit, Sun,” I said, ruffling his scales. “But maybe next time, we’ll just stick to smaller snacks—less soap, less trouble.”

Nebula nudged him again, playfully. “You’re lucky we love you, Sun. Otherwise, we might have left you stuck forever!”

Sunspot puffed out his chest proudly. “Hey, I’m a special kind of dragon—stuck or not, I always come out stronger!”

Hanz, who had been quietly watching, finally spoke up. “You know, Aiden, this has been the craziest birthday ever. But I’ve gotta say, I’ve never seen a group of friends work so hard to help each other. That’s what makes all of this worth it.”

Clay nodded, a rare tender look in his eyes. “Yeah. Sun’s stubborn, but he’s also the most lovable dragon I know. And you—you’re pretty amazing, Aiden. You never gave up, even when things looked hopeless.”

I looked around at everyone, feeling a warm glow in my chest. “Thanks, guys. I just did what anyone would do for friends. We’ve been through a lot today, but we showed that no matter how stuck we are, we always find a way out—together.”

Sunspot looked at me and grinned. “You know what? I think this birthday’s going to be legendary. Next year, I want a party that’s even bigger—more friends, more food, and definitely more soap!”

Everyone cheered again, and Sunspot’s laughter echoed through the den. It was a reminder that even when things get messy and impossible, friendship, patience, and a little bit of soap can work miracles.

Later that night, as the stars twinkled outside, we all snuggled close, sharing stories of past adventures and dreaming of new ones. Sunspot, despite being permstuck, was full of gratitude—and maybe a little mischievous plan brewing for next year.

And as I looked around at all my friends, I knew this was a birthday I’d never forget.

The night settled in, and the den was filled with the warm glow of lanterns and the gentle hum of friends sharing stories. Sunspot, now squeaky clean and still a little bubbly, leaned back against Nebula, who was softly nudging him with her snout.

“You know,” Sunspot said, voice muffled but cheerful, “I might have been stuck today, but I think I’ve learned something important.”

Everyone leaned in, curious.

“Sometimes,” Sunspot continued, “you get stuck in the craziest ways. But if you’ve got friends who won’t leave you behind, you always find a way out. Maybe next year, I’ll try to be a little more careful about what I eat—and a lot more careful about how much I trust my belly!”

Everyone burst into laughter again, and Sunstorm playfully nudged his dad. “Well, Dad, next time, maybe you should just stick to the cake. No salmon. No surprises.”

Sunspot grinned, his belly still a bit shiny from soap. “Deal. But only if I get an extra slice of cake for being the bravest stuck dragon of the day!”

I looked around at everyone, feeling a deep sense of happiness and relief. Despite all the chaos, we’d come together stronger than ever. The friends who’d helped pull, soap, dig, and cheer—every single one of them had shown what true friendship looked like.

Suddenly, Xoa, who had been quietly observing, stepped forward. Her voice was soft but serious. “Aiden, I know today was tough. But I think Sunspot’s right. We’re all stuck in our own ways sometimes. But that’s what makes us stronger—being there for each other, even when things seem impossible.”

I nodded, feeling a warm surge of gratitude. “Thanks, Xoa. You’re right. We may get stuck sometimes, but together, there’s nothing we can’t get through.”

Just then, Clay, who had been quietly listening, leaned in and looked at Sunspot with a proud smile. “You’re a stubborn little guy, Sun, but that stubbornness is what makes you special. And I’m glad we’re all in this together.”

Sunspot grinned, eyes shining. “Thanks, Clay. And I promise—I’ll be extra careful next year… or maybe just a little bigger so I can’t get stuck! That way, I’ll be invincible!”

Everyone erupted into another round of laughter, but deep down, we all knew this birthday was more than just a celebration—it was a reminder of how much we cared for each other, no matter what.

As the stars twinkled outside, I looked at all my friends—the brave, funny, stubborn dragons and animals—and felt a swell of pride. We’d faced chaos, stuckness, and soap, but we’d come out even closer.

And somewhere in the back of my mind, I couldn’t help but wonder what new adventures awaited us—maybe next time, with even more friends, more surprises, and definitely more soap.
