Harriet Potter and the Gender Swap Hex Cl by Kimbawest Harriet Potter and the Gender Swap Hex Cl by Kimbawest
Not too long ago I had a conversation with :iconbranmuffinpower: about her first drawing here in which I had colored here Well the talk was mostly about whether the original drawing should be re-done and re-colored. The bottom line finally was :iconbranmuffinpower: ending up drawing a completely different version. I then went ahead and colored that drawing.

According to :iconbranmuffinpower:
Okay so last time, no one knew who anybody was. This time I am including a key:
(Left to Right - Georgia and Frida Weasley (who don’t look identical, I know), Cho Chang, Gino Weasley, Rhonda Weasley, Harriet Potter, Herman Granger, Drucilla Malfoy, Luno Lovegood, Nellie Longbottom and Treena the Toad.

Wow that was really fast! I'm super impressed, because it took me a few days to draw it and like entire week to do the line work for it. It's really vibrant, which like a lot. I think some of my favorite color choices are in the hair; Frida, Georgia, Luno and Drucilla's hair all came out really nice. I'm also very fond of the deep red against the very bright gold for Gino's quidditch uniform. But I think I'm most impressed with Cho; I didn't love how he came out in the line work, but I like him much better now that I see him in color.  There are only a few small things I think I would do differently. For instance maybe the males shoes - I might have kept them a solid color. And also maybe the necklines (where you put the red would be part of the gray sweater).

Either way, it's really lovely to see it in color! :happybounce: It's interesting how different color can make a thing look. As I mentioned earlier, you did this quite fast (by my standards anyway) so I'm very interested in your process and what software you use to color.

Excellent job!

Minor things can be changed, and so I have done so.

As to why I can color so fast? Well, if I do not have to fight with the scanned color background then I can go pretty fast. Your new drawing was inked set against pure white, that made things much more simple for me to choose the colors I want rather than have to live with. Your old drawing in comparison would have had to have been inked in much the same way for me to be able to provide the bright coloring I have done.

How I color is to form a plan of attack in stages. I start with the most common color in the drawing. In this case it was the light gray in the sweaters. Everywhere that needs that color I use the paint bucket tool to fill in those areas, and then do minor touch up with a brush to cover those spots not filled in. I will then go on to the next most comon color and do the same things, and so on and so forth until I have completed all of the flat coloring. The next step is to creat another layer in Multiply mode so I can add the shading. Sometimes I use more than one shade layer to mix things so it gives a richer texture. Once I am done with shading I move on to highlighting which means creating another layer, but this time in normal mode. By the time I get to highlighting it really starts to come toether and I know I have something good. I have no special trick or tool to really move things along. Everything I use in Manga Studio 5 can be found in Photoshop and Gimp. I guess for me it boils down to organizing and executing what needs to be done.

Thank you for doing this new version of your old drawing. I hope you like the changes I made based on your comments, and if you want something else changed I am reasonably sure I can handle it. So until next time I will simply say, "mischief managed!"

Sorry about that, I forgot to add in the description who everybody was. The fellow you are asking about is Luno Lovegood.

Ahh I see. That's what I thought. The colors of his (or her?) uniform threw me at first. XD Awesome coloring though.
