A poster I did for G-Fest 2008 featuring the King of the Monsters, Godzilla, and Gorgo's Mother from the movie Gorgo. It has always been a dream of mine to see these two titans square off. I wanted to capture the essence of a real 1960's movie poster, so I included similar type, as well as a cast of fictional characters. Richard Hanna (the one with the pipe) is actually a long time friend of mine. The building behind them is the Space Needle, just because I though It would be a cool centerpiece to battle around. And Seattle is big enough to stomp effectively.
I have prints available, for an 11x17 on semi-gloss cardstock, same as at G-Fest. $10.00 plus shipping.
And for you G-Nerds out there:
Before you judge the "fareness" of Godzilla Vs. Gorgo consider the antiquity of the monsters. Godzilla's vast array of powers is surely overwhelming, but remember that Gorgo is unstopable herself. A match between the two would be very entertaining, if not unlike the fight between Godzilla and Rodan in Ghidorah. Most likely, however the two would unite with a common goal, probably against an evil empire or alien. Oh, and for the record, Gorgo's fame extends beyond just the movie. A line of over 20 comics books were created by Charlton by the famous (or infamous) Steve Ditko. Check them out.
Of Course, Mama Gorgo would win! She's MAJESTIC and IMPERVOUS, and so freaking BIG! Great poster in vintage style... But the artist very obviously worked to minimize Gorgo. Her proportions are skewed to make her appear much less formidable than Godzilla. Check it out: Her head should be much larger, her arms should be much longer, her hands and claws should be much bigger and heavier, her teeth should be much longer, and her height should be much taller! Plus she was given a benign facial expression, while Godzilla looks fierce!
Gorgo is almost twice Godzilla's height(right around 95 meters guessing), close range she has the advantage, whereas Godzilla has an advantage in long-range. Then again Godzilla has faced monsters twice his size or larger like Biollante.
Actually, Godzilla is larger in this case (this is the 90's/Heisei era, so it's a hundred meters, or around 300 feet, tall), but I think both are about equal in terms of strength, with Godzilla being slightly stronger
How did you get Toho's ok to use the godzilla's image? Very good art. My name is tony trammell I have a painting of the two beast, it's on the web and always pops up first evertime i do an image search. Don't know how it got on the site it is on but I'm not proud of that image. how the painting looks now just go to my web on my site and check it out. i like your poster very much great imagination. to find my site just do a google search. tony
Mamma Gorgo is more impervious, bigger, and stronger. Mamma Gorgo walked through 4 million volts of electricity, while Godzilla was stalled and halted by merely thousands of volts in both the original movie and again in "Godzilla vs the Thing." Godzilla had to burn down the voltage towers which contained only thousands of volts while Gorgo walked though millions of volts without the aid of atomic breath! Gorgo is immune to fire and all other weapons, so atomic breath would be shrugged off. Plus she is bigger, has far larger arms, hands, and huge claws. Not to mention her huge head, jaws and teeth, which are twice the size of Godzy's. I love them both, but I gotta be real...there's no match here!
