*Wall is 'Sexy Blue' by ShippD LINK.

This theme was spawned from DeLorean.
  • Gtk2 theme

  • Gtk3 theme -includes theming for Nemo-file-manager

  • Metacity 2 & 3 themes

  • Gnome-Shell theme

  • Cinnamon theme 1.60

  • GDM3 theme

  • Xfwm4 theme

  • Openbox3 theme
  • Ubuntu Software Center: Locate the Software-Center folder inside the delorean-dark* folder.
    First backup the original files.
In terminal with root(administrator) privileges type the following:
    sudo cp /usr/share/software-center/ui/gtk3/css/softwarecenter.css /usr/share/software-center/ui/gtk3/css/softwarecenter.css.Original
    sudo cp /usr/share/software-center/ui/gtk3/art/stipple.png /usr/share/software-center/ui/gtk3/art/stipple.png.Original

To copy the new theme files if you have installed delorean-dark theme in '/usr/share/themes/':
    sudo cp /usr/share/themes/delorean-dark/Software-Center/softwarecenter.css /usr/share/software-center/ui/gtk3/css/softwarecenter.css
    sudo cp /usr/share/themes/delorean-dark/Software-Center/stipple.png /usr/share/software-center/ui/gtk3/art/stipple.png

    * Or if you have the theme file in another location just 'cd' into the delorean-dark/Software-Center folder and type in terminal:
    sudo cp softwarecenter.css /usr/share/software-center/ui/gtk3/css/softwarecenter.css
    sudo cp stipple.png /usr/share/software-center/ui/gtk3/art/stipple.png

*** the actual name of the delorean-dark theme folder may vary depending on what version you are using. Ie. delorean-dark delorean-dark-theme delorean-dark[development] etc. Make the necessary adjustment to the above code.

  • LinuxMint-13 and Window Animation: Should you experience problems with window opening and closing animation the fix is to remove the 'metacity-theme-3.xml' file from the included 'metacity-1' folder.

  • Gtk3-3.4*

  • gkt-engine-equinox-1.50

Installing from a repository has several advantages: you can install using your package manager; authenticity of the GPG signed files is automatically verified (under most cases); and you receive updates automatically when you update your system with your package manager.

GDM-3 settup: install the 'gdmsetup' application for your distrobution and select the delorean-dark theme.

I would like to thank S. Mike Smith for the valuable insights, help, and alot of debugging. Not to mention the excellent app 'pygtk_colormixer' he created to 'Mix and Shade' color variables between gtk2 and gtk3. Thank You Mike!
Also he pointed out the importance of monitor color profiling. I hadn't realized the visual impact of having the correct gamma on my monitor. The difference it has made with the appearance of everything is amazing.

Menu-Items in Gtk's when hovered have been changed to match the gnome-shell look(light highlight when hovering over item).
Metacity, fixed the appearance of the buttons when placed on the right side of window(I had been very unhappy with the previous look, this is much better). Cleaned up buttons both right and left side. Changed the pressed color of the buttons and gave tham better definition.
Scrollbars, new scrollbars for both gtk2 and gtk3. I am much happier with these over the previous. Yes, they are kinda KDE retro looking, and I like em, and its much easier to determine the size/length of a scrolled-window with this style. This theme after all is a combining of retro and modern stylings!
Firefox & Thunderbird (for some reason it refuses to draw the scrollbars properly) Go to the Firefox-Theme Link page and follow the instructions for the Scrollbar-Fix.
10-21-12 -ver 1.55 Calendar in Gtk3 has been reworked and newly-themed.
***Your feedback is important to help fix bugs, issues, and problems with this theme***

Should you chose to download and/or use DeLorean, please take a moment to provide feedback. Be it positive or negative, just as long as it is constructive.

The best dark theme i've ever used! I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. Thank you for retaining the GTK 3.4 version of this theme. Ubuntu 12.04 Long Term Support and distros based on it ElementaryOS Luna,Mint 13.04,Deepin 12.06,etc could use this theme.

A small request - It would be nice if the Unity panel buttons match Window buttons. Hoping an 1.56 update soon!

Thanks :-)
I keep all of them available from 3.0 thru 3.10(my current project).  Pre 3.4 are really just for gtk2 for Openbox or Xfce...  This theme 1.55 is frozen.  Im on 3.10 at this point.  But should I have the extra time I will look into the Unity buttons.

Man, this theme is just beautiful!! Amazing design skills you got there. And it's good thing that this thing is still around, for those of us poor folks still using GTK 3.4. And you also have a matching xfwm4 theme, aweomse. Even more awesome is that you also have a Qt theme, a huge lifesaver on a GTK environment. Seriouslt one of the best dark themes I've seen. Thanks for making it :D
killernumberx Featured By Owner Feb 24, 2013
Problem solved! I was putting it in the Thunderbird LOCAL folder

But instead I should have been putting it in ROAMING

Then I restarted and it works! YAY!!!

I'm getting "E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it?" when entering "sudo apt-get install delorean-dark". I'm running 12.04. Any guesses what I can do?
Marcelo-Ruiz Featured By Owner Dec 10, 2012
Thanks for the theme! I really enjoy it.
The only problem I see is using Evolution, but I don't know if this are problems with Evolution itself. Anyway, I will mention them to you so you can take a look at them:
1- The email list font color has poor contrast with the background (IMHO it should follow the theme of the left panel that shows all the folders in the computer: light gray -almost white- over dark grey).
2- The email body has also poor contrast (black over dark grey).
I will be happy to try any modification / suggestion to solve this problem.
Thanks again!

I'm not sure exactly what happened, but in the latest version of Oracle VirtualBox, using this theme has been the interface rather unreadable. (The last version seemed fine.)
killhellokitty Featured By Owner Nov 28, 2012  Hobbyist Interface Designer
Thats not a theme issue. Sorry I can't be of more help.
CapriKornus Featured By Owner Nov 17, 2012
Hi, I love this theme. It's absolutely beautiful everywhere on the system. Thanks for creating it. :)
I just seem to be facing a small problem in that there is a noticeable lag while alternating between windows. There is a moment when the Alt+Tab OSD just hangs on the screen even after the window has been changed.
I noticed a similar comment earlier where you replied to delete the metacity-theme-3.xml file and that has helped a lot. The lag was much worse before. It's still present, but a lot less.
Is there anything that can be done to avoid that? I don't really want to change to any other theme after this.
Oh, and I am using Ubuntu Precise.
killhellokitty Featured By Owner Nov 28, 2012  Hobbyist Interface Designer
Removing the metacity-3 file is the only thing i can think of. Problems continuing after that...I have no ideas to offer.
jdk888888 Featured By Owner Nov 4, 2012
But when I use the other Metacity theme background color is black.
can i change these like you made Metacity theme colors?
killhellokitty Featured By Owner Nov 4, 2012  Hobbyist Interface Designer
I'm sorry, I don't follow your question. Can you please be more specific?
jdk888888 Featured By Owner Nov 4, 2012
My question is:
I now are using your GTK3 theme and gnome-shell theme, only Metacity theme is not.
Now I use the Metacity theme background color seems to follow the changes of GTK.i see it is black.
Can I change background color? just like your Metacity theme background color.
i'm sorry, my english is too bad ,Let you understand up so difficult.I hope you can forgive.

killhellokitty Featured By Owner Oct 16, 2012  Hobbyist Interface Designer
Version 1.52 fixes Synaptic's Quick Search Entry. It doesn't look as clean as i'd like, but its the only solution I could come up with. It seems that Synaptic's Quick Search is hardcoded, so i forced a pix map image over it. Thank you again for reporting a big!

I recently downloaded this theme, and I have to say it looks great. However, I'm missing several icons on my sidebar, and in the HUD and file system. I have the MyUnity app, but this still can't let me change the icons to anything else. I also can't get the Firefox theme to install, since all the files I've found that look similar are read-only and I can't paste the three other files into it. I haven't tried the Thunderbird theme yet. That being said, I'm new to Ubuntu, and all of this, so I'm sort of over my head, and probably just made a newbie mistake. Any ideas how to fix it?
killhellokitty Featured By Owner Oct 5, 2012  Hobbyist Interface Designer
I only use Ubuntu myself while testing a theme. But I will do my best to guide you. This theme doesn't select, or use any icons by default. I am more familiar with 'Advanced Settings Manager (Gnome Tweak Tool)' or with 'Ubuntu Tweak' With either one you can select an icon theme. I know thats not much help. If the problem persists, you should post on the Ubuntu Forums, I found everyone on there very helpful, and knowledgeable.
As for the Firefox-Theme, after you have unpacked the zip file download inside you will find a chrome folder and a README. Copy the entire chrome folder and you are going to paste it into '~/.mozilla/firefox/userprofile/'.
Where userprofile is 'SomeRandomNumbers.default'. Mine looks like '7zsbz6ah.default'. Just go ahead an paste the entire chrome folder in here. I am assuming that you know how to find your 'hidden", or "." files.
After that just restart Firefox.
Let me know if you have any further questions. I hope I was able to help.
falconartistics86 Featured By Owner Oct 6, 2012
I was using MyUnity to try and change icons, and nothings working. It looks like it may change a few of the ones that I can see, but I'm still missing quite a few on the sidebar, in the file system, and also in a few apps. I did end up finding the folder after a lot of looking, but I think it was in a different place than what the README said, either way, I couldn't paste into the chrome folder since for whatever reason half my file system is read only and I have no idea why.

I don't understand your question? Did you install using the Ubuntu PPA? Are you looking for the way to select the theme in your system? That would be the 'Advanced Settings (gnome-tweak-tool)' or 'Ubuntu Tweak'.
