Silky Shark

Shark Week Day 3!

Today I was sorta busy, so I went for a less complicated-looking shark... Also, I was lazy and only managed to sketch things up quick with pencil; I (shamefully) opted to color things digitally. >.<

Anyways, here we have the Silky Shark (Carcharhinus falciformis), a member of the large order of sharks known as Requiem Sharks (ie Carcharhinids). I have the most ridiculous time trying to tell any of these sharks apart, so I hope it didn't turn out looking like one of the other members of that grouping. BUT it would seem that key characteristics of this species are that it has a rather small dorsal fin and very long pectoral fins. As it's name implies... it has smooth skin. :3 It is found throughout the world's pelagic tropical waters.

I picked this one because... well, I wanted a relatively easy shark to draw for today. But also because I asked my sister to pick a shark for me and this was the one she picked.
