The Substance

Not only my movie of the year (tho I also really loved The Fall Guy, Transformers One and Thelma) but easily the best fucking film I've seen in the 2020s thusfar right next to Jordan Peele's Nope and I love the fact that they would make for a GREAT double-feature in terms of themes.

Can't wait to own a copy and rewatch it.

If there's one thing I gotta warn, is that you shouldn't trust too much those who compare this to a David Cronenberg film and go in it expecting that.

Cronenberg is famous for doing a lot of body horror, YES, but in terms of tone and mood, he takes himself seriously.

The Substance is more unhinged and over the top in its approach, it's more comparable to those early Peter Jackson horror-comedy flicks and the stuff from Troma Entertainment or Stuart Gordon/Brian Yuzna.

Calling it an artsy Tales from the Crypt episode is also a better description IMO.
