Summary: Charaka and Gypsee get stuck in a downpour outside of Marrow's territory. Taking shelter in a nearby cave they meet Alcatraz who didn't exactly leave the greatest of impressions on the two of them last time they 'met'. Can they manage to work through the tension? Or will a fight occur in the narrow cave veiled behind a curtain of rain?

Wildfire-Tama said the following:

Alcatraz had been running from the rain all day. He had long since left the vicinity of Morrow, but this storm had herded him right back toward it. Alcatraz was much more of a storm fighter than a storm runner, meaning that he would rather just walk right through it, but it was only days earlier that he had nearly died saving a loner she-wolf from a frighteningly violent flash flood. From that experience he had learned that this rain was not like any he had seen before. It was a dangerous rain that was best to find shelter from as soon as possible.

But he really did need to find shelter soon... he was approaching the Morrow border and he really had no interest in returning to the territory. The air was heavy and distant thunder rumbled its warning. It was then that he saw the small crack in the rock. A cave. Perfect. And he had not passed into Morrow territory yet... although he must be close since he could faintly catch their scent on the wet breeze. A single rain drop fell upon his head before he stepped inside the cave, now safe from the imminent downpour.

Alcatraz turned and laid down, getting comfortable as he prepared to wait out the storm. He watched the rain suddenly begin to fall, going from drizzle to drenching downpour in only seconds. Alcatraz curled his tail around him, watching distractedly as the curtains of rain drummed rhythmically against the trees and ground outside. He let out a sigh, enjoying the soothing display from his safe and dry sanctuary.

The pounding rain pelted the two Marrow females as they trudged through the wilderness. Charaka squinted and peered around for something, ANYTHING, to get them out of this miserable hell hole! She was soaked to the bone as well. Her pelt wasn't made for this kind of rain! She stepped forward gingerly to avoid a patch of mud, then took a glance at Gypsee. The healer didn't look much better than herself. Charaka sighed and mentally kicked herself for what seemed like the thousandth time. It was all her fault! She did mean for them to be stuck so far away from home! She just...! That fox really looked like it had a foamy mouth from a distance! She didn't really want to get to close to it after Gypsee told her how dangerous they were! Although if she could have just plucked up her courage to get a closer look instead of running to get Gypsee to confirm she would have seen it was just a scrap of white rabbit fur hanging from its jaws. Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!

Then a dark shadow caught her eye. She stared at it trying to avoid getting water in her eyes. Although the rain was so heavy it was hard to see more than ten feet in front of them, Charaka could barely make out a slit in the stony mountainous wall. Maybe it was the entrance to a cave?

"Gyps! Do you see that?" Charaka tried to yell over the roar of the rain. However, the words sounded faint even to her ears. So instead she just nudged the healer and jabbed at the entrance with her muzzle. Hopefully Gypsee could see it too.

----------
EgyptianShadowWolf said the following:

Gypsee felt the jab in her side and looked to where Char was motioning at. Gypsee would normally have prefered to investigate first but this storm was making it hard to do anything!!! This was one of the biggest downpours she had experienced ever!!! She looked at Char and nodded, showing her approval, as the wolves made their way toward it. The rain masked all other scents, and Gypsee couldn't smell who was in the area. But there were two of them, so surely that made their odds better? Gypsee began to run forward to the cave and stopped a few feet in front of it, letting Char catch up. She then trotted in, shaking her pelt to get the raindrops off, drying herself as mush as possible. It was then the other scent caught her nose. HEr ears pinned back as her eyes gradually focused in the dark of a familiar shape.

"You!" Gypsee snarled angrily, baring her fangs, her fur standing on end, getting in front of Char.

----------
Kikkatar said the following:

The rain made walking a pain! Even when Charaka tried to choose the best spots to place her feet, the slick grasses had other plans for her. One of her feet slipped out from under her and she stumbled, only regaining her balance after one of her feet sunk into the mud. Stabilizing herself a bit better she jerked it out, the suction making it difficult. She shook some of the mud off but then realized that Gypsee was waiting for her in front of the crack in the stone so she abandoned the idea and carefully trodded up to her. However, as Gypsee unceremoniously pushed through into the assumed dry haven inside Charaka hung back to stare at the water nervously. The rain running off the side of the rocks made it so the entrance was covered with a veil of water, almost like a miniature waterfall. If Charaka wasn't already soaked through this would certainly do the trick. But at least the water was running away from the entrance so it shouldn't be flooding inside.

Then Charaka plunged through the watery curtain. As she expected the inside was dry and she shook her self to try to get some of the water out of her. Then the smell of another wolf entered her nostrils, Gypsee's bark and her bod suddenly in front of her face stopped her short. Instinctively out of fear of this sudden smell, she bared her fangs and bristled her fur menacingly, although her fur was still too wet to really stand up. She quickly scanned for this wolf and saw a shadowy figure inside the cave. The fear inside her grew but she couldn't run away and leave Gypsee! Not again! Willing herself to turn her fear into anger she pushed her way around her friend and charged at the Shadow. Then stopped halfway between Gypsee and the Shadow. This smell was familiar... Glaring at the shadow her eyes slowly became used to the darkness enough to confirm who it was she was smelling. It was that loner she chased off not too long ago! What was his name... Alcatraz? Yeah, Alcatraz. Most of the fear and anger assuaged by recognizing the wolf passed and she visibly relaxed, but then immediately returned to an aggressive stance. Gypsee knew this guy and she was growling at him! Did he do something to her!?

----------
EgyptianShadowWolf said the following:

Gypsee growled as he addressed them, watching Char run toward him but them stop. Gypsee wasn't 100% sure why Char hadn't taken his head off by now, considering what he had done to her, but Gypsee was ready to. She walked forward, her tail waving, still growling as she approached. She walked more to the side, around Char so she could get a good view of Alcatraz. She raised her tail and stared at him.

"What are you doing so close to Morrow? I told you to stay away!! And then what do i hear?? That you've attacked one of our members!" Gypsee spat, feeling the anger almost consume her. She had never felt like this before, not even when her parents left. She walked closer still, stopping a few paces away.

"Why are you here?" Gypsee demanded, her ears still back and her fangs still showing. She glanced at Char to reassure her, nodding slightly.

----------
Wildfire-Tama said the following:

Alcatraz got to his paws as Charaka charged impulsively toward him. He wasn't going to attack, but he needed to be ready for her spontaneous aggression. Luckily she stopped, looking shocked, as she recognized him. His eyes, already well adjusted to the dim light, caught sight of the pale scars that ran across her cheek. He felt a tinge of guilt. He had given her those scratches in self-defense, taking his leave after he had dealt the blow while he knew she would be frazzled. He wished it had not come to that... Alcatraz did not like to hurt others, and only did so in self defense, or in extreme circumstance.

"I attacked one of your members? Interesting interpretation of events." he gave Charaka a cold glance. He could understand why she would be upset about the scar she had received, but he had not shown a single sign of aggression before the female had attacked him that day. For all of his vanity, Alcatraz had a strict code of honor, and one of those rules he lived by was being honorable and truthful. It was not fair of him to impose these morals on others, but he subconsciously did anyway, and scorned those who did not.

He looked back at Gypsee. He knew the fellow pack member would not listen to him if he objected anyway; why should she trust a loner over he pack mate? So he just continued on. "I was trying to outpace this storm. It is rather dangerous; a loner I met was almost killed by a sudden flash flood." he was referring to the loner Judith he had met by the mountains, who he had saved from the flash flood after she was trapped in some mud by the rapidly rising river. They were both lucky to get away with their lives. "But I do not believe I am on your land. When I found I was getting close I just found the closest cave I could find to stop and wait out the storm." he explained, his voice calm but unfriendly as he watched the two she-wolves, ready for any kind of attack they may do. He usually would not expect them to attack since they were on neutral land and he was not showing aggression, but he would not put anything past them at this point, especially when they had a whole pack at their backs.

----------
Kikkatar said the following:

Charaka allowed Gypsee to stand beside her. She was confident that the two of them could take him on if they needed too. However, Gypsee looked angry enough to dispatch him right here and there! Then she said something that make Charaka's skin crawl. He attacked one of their pack members!? But who!? Shocked she tried to remember if any in their pack had sported any recent wounds. She couldn't think of anyone! When did this happen!? She belatedly noticed the dark brown male shoot her a cold look, which confused her but forgot it quickly. His opinion of her did not matter.

More concerned about about the imminent fight that seemed to happen and this attack she knew nothing off. She stayed silent as the male talked. He was indeed near Marrow's borders, but he wasn't right up on the border like he was when she met him. So again, border defense wasn't an issue right now. She struggled a bit between driving him away so he couldn't hurt Gypsee and finding out about this attack before stating to bark harshly at the male.

"Who was it that you attacked!" she demanded of Alcatraz, upping her aggressive stance up a notch. If it was recent or something them maybe Gypsee could get there in time to help them! Wait. But if Gypsee knew about it would she have healed them already? "Gypsee! Who was attacked?" she repeated to the healer beside her without taking her eyes off of the other wolf.

----------
EgyptianShadowWolf said the following:

Gypsee looked at Charaka with a slightly confused expression. She momentarily forgot about Alcatraz and stared at her friend, looking at the scars that other had inflicted on her.

"Char... I'm talking about you..." Gypsee replied, tilting her head slightly. Maybe she had suffered more than she thought. Surely it hadn't caused amnesia?!?!?! Gypsee panicked slightly, convinced she had missed something. She then looked up again and snarled at Alcatraz.

"YOU DID THIS!!" she snapped, putting one of her front paws forward, her tail stretched out behind her, baring her fangs again. She was ready to cast him out, determined to make him pay for it.

"I told you not to come back. You have indeed come back. You have no business here" Gypsee growled, her eyes narrowing at him.

----------
Wildfire-Tama said the following:

Alcatraz glared at the females, but kept his temper held down as well as he could in the face of this presumptuous she-wolf. He let out a patient yet exasperated sigh. "Listen, Gypsee. I had to get her off my back somehow. It was either knock her out and run or stick around to take on the rest of your pack. I didn't intend for..." he flicked his tail to Char's face, "That. And for that I apologize." He really was sorry about it, but at this point he did believe that she deserved it, especially because of when she first arrived in the cave and charged him without even knowing who he was. A wolf that impulsive deserved to learn how to calm down and not leap into a situation without a plan. In fact, all of Morrow deserved a scar as far as he was concerned. Gypsee should have known better before she mocked him. And Alcatraz knew well that wolves in a pack all have the similar mindset, at least as far as he knows. It was a terrible thing, he though, when a clear minded and reasonable wolf's judgement was skewed by the pack they live in, which was often the case.

He felt a tinge of annoyance as she continued on the part of him coming back. "If you wanted control of this land as well as your own territory, then you need to put a border around it. Until you do, then you have no right to tell any wolf whether or not to. come back." he growled, his tail tip twitching. He was really getting fed up with these two she-wolves, and it was taking quite a bit of self control not to just tear them to shreds right here and now. They did have him cornered and were threatening him, after all, it would not be unreasonable at all for him to do so. But, once again, the fact that they were part of a pack forced him to be patient. Two she-wolves he could handle. But a whole pack?

----------
Kikkatar said the following:

Gypsee was talking about her? She watched as Gypsee scanned her face and then her eyes rested on her cheek. Was this about her scars? Was all this anger really about the scars? Charaka didn't care about the scars! Scars just happen. Or was it that she attacked him? No. Gypsee thought he had attacked her apparently.

"Gyps, I-" she started to say before Gypsee roared at him and stepped forward. This was the angriest Charaka had seen her friend. It was starting to become scary. She looked at the male when he sighed irritably. She listened and nodded once in response to his apology. She honestly did not care about the scars! Though the apology was a strange surprise coming from a loner who she chased off. He seemed to not want to attack them, and the fact he was not done so yet with two, well one now since Charaka had dropped all aggression, snarling wolves backing him into a corner supported this hypothesis. Although he looked like he was at the end of his patience. Thunder followed by a lightning flash split the air, making the strained atmosphere more menacing. Concerned Charaka sent a sideways glance at the healer. Now that she thought about it, she wasn't even sure if Gypsee could fight. I mean it was one thing to fight two on one when the wolves had experience, but in these close quarters having an ally who couldn't fight was a huge hindrance! With Gypsee's anger, Charaka wasn't confident enough she could keep either of them safe! At the worst, Gypsee could get killed! Even if they did somehow win, Gypsee didn't have any of the healing goop with her. What if they received some bad injury. They could try to find help, but their pack might be scattered all over the territory and with this rain there wasn't a high chance of finding them. Plus Charaka herself knew almost nothing about healing! They could bleed out before they could get help!

Fur completely flattened but still in an defensive stance, Charaka shot the male another judging glance before speaking up. Loud enough to get Gypsee's attention this time. "Gypsee! Gyps, I don't really care about the scars or the fight." she started, then hesitated. How does one calm down a wolf who wants to fight? Charaka wasn't entirely sure how. "I only attacked him cause, I attacked him first, cause he was close enough to the borders to cross over. I just didn't want him coming in! That's all! He left! I'm not mad at him. Really!" she pleaded with her friend, taking a risk to reach over and nuzzle Gypsee's light grey neck fur in hoping the touch would calm her down. However, she kept her eyes on the male warily. Doing this exposed her neck but there would be a fight if she somehow didn't calm down the situation. If worst came to worse then she would try to drag Gypsee out of here and into the torrent outside. Better wet than dead.

"And he's not close enough to our lands to get into a fight over. So... Let's, let's just not. Please?" she pleaded one more time.

----------
EgyptianShadowWolf said the following:

Gypsee was still glaring at him when Char came over and nuzzled her. Her ears flicked and her eyes glanced at her, flicking her tail aswell. Shesighed and moved away, listening to Charaka.

"we DO have borders" Gypsee growled quietly, moving away to near the entrance to the cave, before laying down, putting her head on her paws and watching the rain intently. She calmed down after a few minutes, not feeling quite so angry anymore. Wolves whom she thought were up themselves annoyed her. Pride meant nothing if you were dead. Pride got you nothing. She snorted slightly through her nose and flicked her tail, still watching the rain. She was quite amazed at her ability to go from murderous rampage to calm and kind of serene in a few minutes

----------
Wildfire-Tama said the following:

Alcatraz rolled his eyes at Gypsee. "Yes, you do have borders, but not around this land." he explained slowly, as if she was stupid, but he was just getting really annoyed with her and just wanted her to stop talking. He was quite exasperated at this point and about ready to just leap at them both. But then Charaka did something he had never expected. She calmed Gypsee down. Hmph. Smart she-wolf. She knows she is outmatched. He thought. Or at least, she had realized how unjustly they were both treating him. He was surprised to hear that she was not mad at him. She seemed pretty mad before. Gypsee turned and walked away, sitting down by the entrance.

Alcatraz was relieved that the confrontation was over, but he almost wished he could have just fought them off, because then he would be alone. Oh well... hopefully the storm would let up soon. He settled down into a lying position and put his head on his paws, staring at the cave wall, though being sure to keep the females in his peripheral vision in case they were going to pull a fast one. He did not think they would, though. The threat had passed.

----------
Kikkatar said the following:

Charaka stood awkwardly between them as they gave the argument their last word and Gypsee left to go lay by the entrance. After giving the male a wary look, Charaka followed and sat down beside her still facing the dark brown loner. Not really beside her in case she didn't like to be comforted through touch like Yona, but Charaka still wanted to to something to communicate she was still on Gypsee's side. Waiting for her friend to calm down, she studied the loner. There wasn't really much else to do really. Plus he was just lying there staring at the wall. Charaka gave the bit of wall he was looking at a once over but there was nothing interesting there that she could see in this dim light.

A small snort and tail flick drew her attention back on Gypsee. Charaka was relieved to see she looked rather normal, if grumpy. Plus her fur was flat, if still damp. Relatively confident that there wouldn't be another near fight, Charaka slowly lowered herself into a laying position though she still kept her head up and eyes still upon the loner. She positioned herself so that her side touched Gypsee's. More than offering her friend comfort it was more to reassure herself. Physical contact with others usually made her feel more secure, and after the near miss she found that she really needed that. However, Charaka could be clingy later. Right now there was still a non-pack member in their midst and there were certain things you couldn't really do in front of someone you didn't know. Although the ever widening silence filled only by the rain and thunder outside was starting to get on her nerves. She almost wished someone would say something just to break it, but they'd probably would just argue again. Also, Charaka didn't really have anything to say really. She sighed wishing the rain would let up soon.

----------
EgyptianShadowWolf said the following:

Gypsee was focusing on the rain when Charaka lay next to her, her fur touching her own. It was comfort for her, letting her know her friend was still here. Gypsee preferred contact, she was quite a cuddly wolf to her friends. Gypsee raised her head, noticing Charaka was facing the other way, presumably watching Alcatraz. She remembered back to their first meeting and how they were nearly friends, but then it went wrong. Gypsee huffed, putting her head on Charaka's back, shifting her tail back and forth. She closed her eyes, happy with her friends company.

"Have we got any food at the den still??" Gypsee asked, breaking the silence. She wasn't too concerned if Alcatraz heard their conversation, what was the worst that could happen?? She looked at Charaka and smiled reassuringly, from her head position on Charaka's back.

----------
Wildfire-Tama said the following:

Alcatraz twitched his ear as Gypsee spoke, but she was speaking to Charaka so Alcatraz stopped listening. He was glad that the threat had passed. Although he wished that Charaka would stop staring at him and turn away like Gypsee, he did not blame her at all. She should be wary of him. He was a loner that she hardly knew at all.

He let out a soft sigh. He had been looking forward to a nice, relaxing rest as he watched the storm pass by, but everything was hardly relaxing now with the two pack wolves huddled by the entrance, ready to pounce at a moment's notice. Oh well, he had been through much worse. Soon the storm would pass and he could be alone again. He licked one of his dark forepaws and put his head back down on the hard stone floor.

----------
Kikkatar said the following:

When Charaka felt Gypsee lay her head on her back she wagged her tail softly, pleased. She would have done it harder but it only took one fight between herself and her brothers to learn how not to smack your tail in someone's face.

"Um, there's that deer I hunted and dragged back yesterday. But it's probably mostly gone..." Charaka said. And it probably would be, the whole pack had a hearty appetite and while still small compared to the other packs it was growing in size. So with Charaka being the only official hunter, she had her work cut out for her feeding the lot. At least the other members helped by hunting the smaller game or else they'd probably starve. "Oh! Gyps! Remember how you said you liked roe deer! I think I found some! I can get it for you later when the storm's out!" she said. She had an extremely pleased expression on her face, as if she was a pup who just caught its first beetle, and puffed out her chest proudly.

It had been quite the task to find Gypsee's favorite food! Giving up on scent tracking, she had started searching outside the pack boundaries looking for anything that met the description. Charaka had managed to figure out what deer tracks looked like and what direction they were pointing in pretty quickly, but there were A LOT of deer out there making tracks. Eventually Charaka would just call it a day, wear down and kill a deer, and then drag it back to the dens. However, she had managed to spot one earlier today hiding in the forest just north of here! Which she would have taken down if she didn't get spooked by the fox-that-didn't-have-rabies and hightailed back.

All the time she spoke she was watching the loner. She had noticed him flick his ear when Gypsee spoke earlier. Perhaps... Was he feeling unhappy? Did he want to talk too? Maybe... She didn't really know...

"Um... Alcatraz? Do you have a favorite prey?" she asked politely. It was a sort of out of the blue question, but she didn't really know what else to ask really.

----------
EgyptianShadowWolf said the following:

Gypsee nodded at Charaka's answer, not surprised that the rest of the pack would have eaten it. She found it quite amusing actually! It was then that Charaka spoke of Roe deer that Gypsee got excited.

"You spotted some???" Gypsee asked, her head shooting up and her tail wagging furiously.

"its been so long since i last tasted any, it used to be our prey of choice in my birth pack!!" Gypsee said, looking at Charaka again, beaming a smile.

----------
Wildfire-Tama said the following:

Alcatraz wasn't listening as the two females conversed briefly, thinking about where he would head next. Should he travel back the way he came to the east or should he just head in a different direction all together? His thoughts were cut short when he heard his name. He lifted his head, looking at her critically. But her uncertain and well-meaning gaze made his hard expression soften a bit. "Favorite... prey?" he echoed quietly in confusion. Why was she suddenly being polite to him? Why would she want to know anything about him? He thumped his tail uncertainly against the ground. He supposed he ought not shoot her down. It was... surprising.... "Elk." he answered simply. He loved the challenge. He only rarely had elk, so difficult they were for a lone wolf to take down. But occasionally a sickly or elderly one would cross his path, and they always put up a good fight for him. The hard work made it even more rewarding when he sank his teeth into the gamey meat. It reminded him that he hadn't eaten in a while. With all this rain and excitement, he had hardly noticed.

----------
Kikkatar said the following:

Pleased that she had managed to elicit some kind of answer from Alcatraz, Charaka bobbed her head a few times before chiming up with "Mine's prairie dog!" Apparently, it was the right choice to talk about food! Everyone liked food right? Speaking of food... Charaka's stomach let out a loud gurgle that surprisingly echoed around the cave, making it seem louder then it really was. Charaka tilted her head a bit confused. She would have expected that the rain would have... "Oh hey. The rain's let up." she said with mild surprise as she turned to glance outside. The veil-like waterfall was no more and it was only drizzling outside. Charaka could still hear thunder in the distance though. If they were going to leave, and hopefully get something to eat, she and Gypsee would have to leave now.

Standing up, Charaka stretched a bit before suggesting to her friend, "Should we go and hunt them now?" Then she looked at Alcatraz one more time as she waited for Gypsee to answer. Charaka vaguely wondered if he was hungry too after talking about prey like she was. Judging by his smell and coat condition, she assumed he could hunt very well for a loner. Maybe he could help them? If the three of them cooperated then they might be able to catch more than one of those smallish deer and then both parties could have something to eat without argument.

Risking one more question she asked, "Alcatraz? Would you... like to come hunt them with us? If you're hungry or something?" Then remembering the previous near scuffle, Charaka looked sheepishly at Gypsee. "If you're okay with that of course Gyps..."

----------
EgyptianShadowWolf said the following:

Gypsee stood up with Charaka, shaking her fur. She looked round to Charaka and nodded.

"I think it's a great idea!" She chimed. When her friend mentioned about Alcatraz coming along, she paused.

"Well, i guess. As long as he doesn't try to kill us or something" Gypsee said as she put her nose out the cave, her voice sounding slightly muffled.

----------
Wildfire-Tama said the following:

Alcatraz stared at the two females in confusion.. especially Charaka. Where was this sudden friendliness coming from? He was surprised when Gypsee agreed to let him go. He supposed he had not hunted with anyone else in a while... and the idea of an easier meal surely appealed to the loner. He got to his paws. "If you would like I will join you." he said. After all, he did want to make it up to Charaka for doing that to her face. Although she didn't seem upset with him at all at the moment. He padded toward them with his head low and his pale yellow eyes darting around the bright outside, seeing that the rain was still dripping from the trees. "If I intended to I would have done it already." he muttered.

----------
Kikkatar said the following:

Charaka didn't say anything when to her surprise Alcatraz actually agreed but instead gave him a few tail wags. When he passed by her she turned and went outside along with him, making sure to keep herself between the loner and Gypsee. Charaka may have invited him to a hunt, but she didn't want to leave her friend open to a surprise attack. Once out into the open air she gave herself a nice big shake to try to get rid of the last bits of water clinging to her skin. She was really starting to hate rain.

Lol! It kinda helped because apparently Char viewed the whole encounter with Traz as more of a business thing than an actual interaction, but because of that he wasn't a "Stranger" and didn't trigger Char's usual fear-aggression. Odd mixture of events.
