Under the Stars

Ever since the beginning of Kiara's Queenhood and the travelling of King Kovu, It had been hard for the two of them to come to have casual conversations. Kovu was off every few weeks to be an ambassador for the Pridelands, going to the neighboring prides and herds and listening to their woes. He was in charge of making treaties when Zazu, the aging Majordomo, couldn't make the long flight path to the neighboring settlements.

But at every time they could steal away, the young Queen and her husband would sneak off into the long grasslands of their youth, and lay under the stars as they had long before they had their royal duties to attend to. Some days, it was quiet and the two of them would simply reflect while looking at the starry night sky, but nights like tonight, it was different. They would tell the long stories and recount the times that they were apart, talking about their difficulties and the hilarity that happened when the other wasn't there to see it. After Kiara talked about how her two brothers had again disturbed the Water Buffalo, and she again had to go smooth things over with them, it was Kovu's turn.

"I came up on the neighboring pride," He starts.

"The one to the east?" Kiara chimes in, and Kovu nods. She gestures for him to continue, and he sucks in a breath.

"And one of the lionesses there asked, 'Aren't you like, Scar?'" He says, furrowing his eyebrows and flailing one of his arms out to the side, giving Kiara an outraged shrug. Kiara laughs, high and musical, because she knew the accusations were no more of an annoyance to the King now. "And I told her, bitch, get glasses." He says, his eyes staring to her, his face still a mask of outrage.

Kiara was rolling now, holding her stomach and waving her paw in front of her, trying to calm herself. "Please tell me you didn't tell the ambassador of the pride to get glasses," She chokes out, before erupting into another string of giggles.

"No, but I wanted to." He says grimly, grumbling. He wraps his arms together, and after pouting for a moment, he realized the hilarity of the situation. Their laughter echoes one another, reverberating in the silence between them.

A scene-of-sorts from the Big TLK AU that BlazingBlackMage and The-Hare and I are working on! These are our older versions of Kiara and Kovu. The two of them have a really tight relationship, and really love to have quiet talks under the stars to get away from everybody else. I think they feel the closest to the Great Kings, there, too, so that helps when you're having serious conversations. :> 

 Kiara is now Queen, and instead of stepping in as a proper King, Kovu instead works as an ambassador. Basically, he goes back and forth to the herds and prides and packs around the Pridelands and does treaties and other things. :> Kiara stays home for her Queen-duties, and they only meet up a few times a month when the two of them aren't busy. I see Kovu as the type not wanting to be held down doing only King's work, so I feel like the Ambassador job would suit him well. uvu Ever since his teen-hood, too, Kovu has kind of beefed up a little. (Except for his mane. He kind of just gets a poofy, short mane. Poor baby.)
