Impressions Of The Overworld (Part I)

Metroid Prime is 10 years old this year, so I played it again. Man, all the memories it brings back. I always get the same feeling when Samus first sets foot on Tallon IV's. The music comes in slowly, the cutscenes show different places of the landing site, and from that point on, you know you've got this whole world to explore. It's perfect.

At the same time, I really wanted to paint. Because Tallon Overworld impressed me so much after all this time, I wanted to paint some of it. I used no direct reference, but painted it all from memory. I didn't want this to be an accurate view of the place, but I wanted it to be my personal memories about it.

I also wanted to make more of it, by switching up my style of painting. You'll see that some of it is not the style that you're used to with my work. I used wet paper towels for some of the paintings, or some spots on the paintings. It gave it a more dynamic, kind of un-retouched look, seeing as I always tried to perfect everything, with details and all. The towels sometimes ripped and got stuck on the canvas, especially on Orpheon's reactor core painting (the platforms), which gave it more depth and made it stand out more.

I'm very happy with the way this came out. Hope you'll like it too.

haha wow, except for old scythe's comics I haven't seen a metroid drawing from you for quite some time.
It's good to see this kind of stuff from you again.
Good job on the drawing I can identify most of them except the last one, not sure if those are the floating rocks from the impact crater.
Anyway nicely done pal

It's the reactor core that the Parasite Queen falls in. [link] 5:26

This really brings Tallon IV to life. It looks like you personally set up an easel and painted the scenery in plein air. Nice job.
