Who I am:
A bilingual Japanese/Australian: born in Nagoya, Japan and raised in Melbourne, Australia

Introduction to Kigurumi:
Kigurumi (着ぐるみ), or specifically Anime-gao Kigurumi (アニメ顔 着ぐるみ), is a form of costuming in which the performer is completely covered from head to toe in order to emulate an image of a character as visually accurate to their manga or anime as possible.
The performer wears a head mask designed to visually resemble a character from a manga or an anime, while also wearing a matte skin-colored tights to give a cel-painted feel to their skin. The main goal of kigurumi is to create the illusion that a character from a cel-painted 2D world has been literally pulled into our own 3D world.
While originally limited to live performance shows for official promotions of popular cartoon series, dressing in kigurumi costumes started to become popularized as a form of cosplaying in Japan from the early 90s when people began to make masks and suits on their own. Nowadays, the emergence of numerous private manufacturers have made masks and suits more accessible to the general mass, resulting in an exponential rise in the number of individual kigurumi performers, to the point that it is now a recognizable sub-culture of cosplaying.
