PowerGirl by KidNotorious PowerGirl by KidNotorious
Drawn before the new DC remodel of PowerGirl debut.
I'm actually influenced by the few unofficial pictures from the set of the Man of Steel film that I've seen so far plus a few other artists redesigns of Superman and his related characters that appeared before the New 52 DC debuted.

The redesigns that I've seen that I was really drawn to gave Superman a cool retro yet modern space man look that really fit the character so I thought I would try it out with PowerGirl and Supergirl... Superman may come later.

The sheild boob window works on a few levels, I think there was a recent but pre new 52 comic where she talks about leaving the space empty until she can find something she believes in, so for Kara to leave that space open until she find her own kryptonian sigil...

Coolio. I like the slightly longer shorts, the buckle design on her front, and the emphasis on gold. THIS is the PG I love (the badass one with an oddly classical outfit).

There's some good stuff and some not-so-good stuff.
Seems they may just be over thinking a lot of things, considering marketing too much and not putting thought into some things they really should.

I must agree. I still think they should have gone the route Marvel took with the Ultimate universe.

this is great. it just looks like powergirl, and it successfully amalgamates her 2 major looks. i also like the superman shaped boob window.

I wouldn't like to mess with that lady. She looks like she can kick everyone's butt with one finger.
Really cool suit design.
Also I like that her boobs aren't as big as everyone likes to draw em.

Well, just something closer to the design people have been used to.
I'm sure that people will become used to the new design soon enough as well.

I can't say i'm a huge fan either but I little bits or storylines from many characters that I draw without being a big fan.

I even made a little story behind the "window" linking back to her kryptonian heritage but I think this costume would also work well without it.

Had a purpose or little rough backstory for everything included in this design... overthinking it.

I love overthinking stuff - creators' analytic thoughts are often very faschinating :D

This is a really neat design. Not a fan of the window , but the overall look is pretty nice. I especially like the stitching on the abdomen and the style of boots.

I'd like to try this costume without the window.
Hoping that the piping in the costume along with the boots and gloves give off a "spacey" feel.

The piping is stellar, along with the boots and gloves. You executed the "spacey" very well, without abandoning the heroic, PowerGirl aspect. There's a really nice balance between the subtle details and flashy elements. You even made the shorts look cool, which is difficult to pull off.

I really like this design. It's got great use of details and does exactly what you're talking about - evoking that retro-space-age style but in a way that isn't cheesy or outdated. I wish DC would have gone this direction with the character instead of the really, really ugly costume they used.

Thanks Adam!
Seems many costumes are going for flash over substance. As I was drawing the costume I was thinking up reasons of why she would wear this and that as well as making up little back stories for a couple of elements.

And that's how you do it RIGHT. I'm a firm believer that every element of a costume should be there for a reason, not just because you think it's neat-o or whatever. Strive for practicality, and where you break with what's practical then you should have a reason. Costuming helps define character.

Oh man, I ADORE this!
Power Girl is my favorite late and I fee like they just lost her in that new design. This still has her spirit and looks modern. Oh man, Love it. Only complaint is I always loved her blue accents but the gold looks nice too!

Funny how the blue of the sky is like an arrow, pointing at something.

I was wondering how the clouds would be taken. I saw a blazing sunset that turned the clouds golden yellow and brown and had to try it out somewhere.

Oh man. No worries about those clouds. They look really cool. They fit that whole "Golden God" scheme that you have for Power Girl too.
