Along with Gummi's suggestion, I would advise you that "closed species" is a powerless term. People take these supposedly closed designs and find any loophole they can to count it as their own. There's virtually nothing anyone can do about it.
Powerless or not people use it and if popular enough people will respect it. I want to make my own for something new to draw without the worry of someone going nuts for drawing their designs. I have some nice ideas I can develop into a story of sorts.
I really doubt anyone will have honest interest in using the species and not advise you of said interest. People won't go nuts and take the design. That's mostly in feral furries from what I've seen.
A method I use is simply keep the species open but with some limitations. My Mutinal species like Cynthia are open, but only the ones I make count as real because of the methods used to create them. The original creature is pretty much locked down but I still have no power to stop theft which relates to my previous comment. It's just a risk you take and have to understand going in.
I never said people would take my design I'm talking about the existing closed species, I want to have something interesting to draw and not worry about someone giving me shit about it. I want to draw something other than sonic/anthro. A closed species isn't just about the design I have read up about it from people who own their own. I've already put some time into developing my own.
Oh. It seemed like you were interested in making one of your own. That part can be up to chance. Just have a way to confirm that the owner gave permission or what ever limitations they have set to make it count as closed. Not saying anyone won't give you trouble. Just be sure to have proof to shut them down.
I am making my own, I don't wanna draw other closed species because people can be funny about it. I need to draw something other than Sonic/Anthro/Human so I'm making something of my own. While I can't keep people from making one, it's something fun for me to do for myself. I just want to be careful when doing it so as not to accidentally do something already done.
Okay, you're trying to screw me up. So in this case, it's virtually impossible to know for sure. Just keep it off the generic stuff you see often, and that should minimize your chances of duplicated someone else by mistake.
I'm not sure what you're going for but, I'd recommend avoiding cats, wolves, and ponies. Everything imaginable has been done on those so your chances to sneak a closed species into them is virtually impossible.
My design is based on the Kitsune of Japanese folklore. While their baseline is pretty simple the fun comes in with the fur colouring and patterns and number of tails, they're pretty powerful so the power is a fun aspect too.
don't just combine a bunch of animals together and call it a closed species. And if it's a cat species, you gotta make sure its UNIQUE because everyone is gonna give you butthurt about it if it looks too similar to something else.
