Serious question: When you make something for someone and they alter/scribble over your work and have it online (no credit given), can that be classed as theft?

Yes and no, if you drew for them they can show it but as long as they don't take credit for drawing it then it's alright!

no credit has been given to me for the original drawing and they never asked me permission to alter it they just went ahead and rubbed stuff out and drew things in

I wan't sure which was why I asked, the good news is it has been removed so I've no need to take any action on this.

Hm...probably.  It's easier to get away with if it was for them because it's their character, not someone else's.  I'd say yes

well basically I made them a sketch and they proceeded to rub out and doodle over it posting it in sta.sh (they gave me the link). This was even for a commission I feel slightly offended they thought it was okay to scribble over it and say, "this is what I want"

   Stash is kinda private, so if it's not public and their not claiming credit it's not really theft but I can see the offense part.

   Sometimes when people show me a sketch of a commission I'll edit a line to give a visual of something for when they do the line, color, shading and so on.  I'm not really sure about the case here since I don't know the picture.  You can send me a private link to the image, unless you don't want to "point fingers" which is understandable.

In sta.sh or not it's not their work to have there, that's my point and most who I've shown say it's theft.

I can send it you via note as not to draw a million eyes on it, I've already asked them to remove it. I feel slightly offended and as if my work isn't good enough when people edit it especially as they erased part of it and added on bits and told me that that is what they wanted it to look like.

A private link through notes would work, though if you find it offensive then they probably should take it off.

I only open commission during the summer so I don't have any experience with this kinda thing. ^^;

I've asked them to as politely as possible, I don't think I could be nicer about it even if I tried.
I've been doing commissions none stop for about a year if not longer and I always have some kind of problem. People whining about how long I take asking for refunds (when I don't do refunds and it says that on my FAQ)  or just them rushing me.
