is this a chaos ship? Looks too opulent

It's a Rogue Trader ship. And Rogue Traders get a lot of leeway from the Imperium.

Most of their ships are old. Never having been mass-production warships, they tend to have more graceful lines. And with ownership being handed down among rich merchants, improving them further can become a multi-generational hobby.

It's a rogue trader's leisure craft. A genestealer related faction i think.

It looks like a pre-Heresy civilian ship from Prospero got thrown into the 41st millennium, and in ignorance adopted the modern colors of Magnus's Astartes Legion. That's the sort of mystical grace it projects.

It's the sort of thing you can only get in a ship that needn't follow Mechanicus standardization rules so firmly, can choose to run from fights if it wants, and has possibly given rich owners millennia to slowly customize it.

this reminds me of the ships from the atlantics movies

KevKoe's avatar

You mean the Ulyses?

Maybe been a while since I watch it.

This is absolutely gorgeous! Its definitely helped improve my motivation to design and render my OWN rogue trader vessel! Nice job!!

KevKoe's avatar

Thank you! I'm glad to be able to inspire you to make art! :D

nice job, it reminded me right away of 40k with this mix of gothik cathedral and space ship, especially love the huge golden statue of the 4 handed emperor. i don't think i have seen that kind of use of statues on the top of ships in 40k yet but it really looks awesome.

I feel like the ship colors look are a bit too clean and the ship could use some more guns sticking out form the side but that is just personal taste and a nitpick. the art is really cool!

KevKoe's avatar

Thank you!! Yeah, the lack of guns and the clean aesthetic is intentional, my clients requested the ship to be clean, luxurious and function as a leisure ship/yacht for a rogue trader faction. :)

In my eyes 40K leisure ships this size are rather unprofitable for a Rogue Trader. And unlikely: any Imperials with the money and lifestyle to spend much time on one had the money and snobbery to procure their own luxury crafts.

But nevertheless, the aesthetic utterly suits them. Rogue Trader ships didn't need to bristle with guns and ugly structural reinforcement like Navy ships did.

soundsofspace's avatar

ah ok, that explains it. interesting. yeah the wing like design fits really well to the luxurious leisure ship concept as well

i hope you get to draw more 40k stuff in the future, you really have a good eye for it

KevKoe's avatar

I really hope so! :D
