Religion in Velukaelo

The religion in Velukaelo is most comparable to Hinduism and Greek mythology. There are many, many deities of varying strength and prominence. The main deities are those who are known everywhere, but some deities may only be known and worshiped in very small areas. The view of what qualifies as a deity also varies from place to place. One village's god may be another village's demon. There is a deity for almost everything and gods often interact with mortals. There is a "spirit world" and reincarnation cycle in Velukaelo. Since deities are so widespread and integrated with mortals, statues, paintings, shrines, and temples are everywhere. Though the black market for deity body parts is very profitable, it is actually quite small in relation to Velukaelo's population. Parts of deities are used in rituals, medicine, armor, etc. Hunting gods is illegal in Darsha since the fall of Aterrin, but is a gray area in Aegrus. Most gods that are killed are the less powerful ones, as well as divine animals (like salamanders) and demi-gods who are half god and half mortal. The more powerful gods seldom intervene with the god killing practice, as they realize that having too many of them can be problematic.

Deities vary widely in appearance. Many of them can shift between several forms. The more powerful deities are usually depicted as dragons, while others take the form of enormous animals. Sovereign Deities

These are the most powerful deities in Velukaelo. They are widely known and worshiped.

Titans

The titans are representative of intangible aspects of Velukaelo, such as good, evil, neutrality, life, and death. In recent years, they have become associated with environmental symbols, such as the sun, as well.

Arch Deities

These gods are, in some instances, just as powerful as the titans, but are not as well known and are usually revered in secluded areas.

Minor Deities

This tier is comprised of gods that are very obscure or mysterious as well as demi-gods.

Judges and Constructs

This tier is comprised of warrior gods who were created to fight for Asli, or horrific monsters who were created by Anti.

This tier is comprised of deities and miscellaneous figures who only serve as domain guardians. Very little is known about the majority of them.
