Many centuries have passed since the fall of the King of Evil, and Hyrule has known an uncontested reign of relative peace and prosperity. But when a festival goes wrong thanks in no part to the help of a Dark Stranger, Link, a ranch boy of 15, must rescue his best friend Zelda from danger in an underground realm long lost to Hyrule...

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You guys remember those journals I kept posting, mentioning how I'm back into writing?  Here's the result of my efforts!

I'm about an introduction and four chapters in already and I am getting really good feelings about this story.  It's the first time I've been able to write multiple chapters in...well, let's be frank, since I left college.  Not only is my writing improving, but also my world in general.  I'm doing a really good job maintaining my world and my sense of balance with my surroundings, and I am very proud of where this is going.

So, anyway, this story's currently on Fanfiction and I'm also thinking about moving it to other websites to get more opinions on it.  Thus far this story is one of my best yet and I'm getting good reactions from people.  It feels GOOD beyond belief to get reviews again.  I can't believe how foolish I was to stop thinking that Fanfiction was a good thing...

Anyway, I'll be sure to let everyone know when I'm going to post it on DA.  It will be in PDF format so that I can post high quality images with chapters as well, such as pictures of the bosses and maybe even images of the enemies.  These will take longer to produce so they won't be released as quick of a rate as they will on other sites, so if you want to catch up completely rather than wait be sure to check out the Fanfic here: www.fanfiction.net/s/10612568/…

I'm intrigued. When you're referring to the "Underground Realm of Hyrule" I suppose in this version Hyrule was buried?

Nah, it's an underground realm separate from Hyrule but connected to it in some way.  It kind of ties in with a combination of themes/dark places introduced in Skyward Sword and Minish Cap that weren't really touched upon in the other games, such as where Demise and his followers came from and why the Picori Blade was needed to seal these said monsters away (before it became the Four Sword and sealed Vaati in Minish Cap and the Four Sword titles).  It also includes one of my favorite themes in a lot of High/D&D fantasy; that of a Hollow-Earth realm like an Underdark or Everdark.  Given that most fantasy places, even Lord of the Rings, has an equivalent underground realm (for Dragon Age it was the Deep Roads, for Eragon it was the underground tunnels and cities in the Dwarven mountain ranges) I thought it'd be cool if I introduced one to LoZ.

I like the concept so far as it fills in a lot key grey areas that sadly the original canon doesn't follow. For one I actually like how you're at least referencing Vaati from the MC and Four Sword series since I feel like that guy doesn't get nearly as much of a major role in the history then he deserves if nothing else.

But as a D&D Player and a rabid fan of good High Fantasy such as Lord of the Rings and Elder Scrolls I look forward in your take of Zelda.
I tried mine a few years ago, didn't have the interest to keep going after the seres kept disappointing me but it's good to see someone put the effort in it.

Is the Four Sword/Picori Blade and the Master Sword the same weapon through different incarnations in this versions or is it different?

*nodsnods* Indeed, I'm pretty proud of the concept myself.

Unfortunately the canon doesn't give a lot of detail regarding the Picori Blade and its differences with the Master Sword.  What we know is that they are two different weapons that fulfilled similar purposes, but the Picori Sword was changed completely into the Four Sword over the course of the Minish Cap and changed into a different sword than the Master Sword entirely.  I'm hoping on doing another fanfic in the future that's a sort of prequel to the Minish Cap that covers why it's important, but that may have to wait.

That's always something that bothered me about the Zelda Lore, especially how is now You can tell there were a lot of open missing areas and spaces about the Lore that were never explained and were just left there before because the Creators admit that they tend to work on gameplay before story.
A shame but I guess it does leave Zelda wackjobs and tossers like me or you to have there own interpretation about things.

I've kind of concluded that the Master Sword is simply another Version or Incarnation or name for the Four Sword as silly as that sounds. Different generations tend to change the names and origins of things from time to time so having the Zelda Universe do that makes sense when you think about it.

Personally I'm looking forward of the Origin of the Box Vaati broke before they were free. I always got a sort of "Pandora's Box" Vibe from it. And perhaps when Vaati opened the Box in released all the Evils into the World thus forwarding the Corruption. But again, that's just an interpretation that can be followed.

One person on the internet I know had fun expanding on the Wind Tribe, being that many fans think that they are perhaps one of if not THE earliest Civilization in Hyrule. Although Skyloft could be before or after. Either way, it's all about perception of things.

Well the good news is that it also leaves big openings for future game titles, that way in case if they run out of ideas for a sequel or remakes they can always make a prequel or follow up on certain important characters not introduced yet in the story.  We have yet to have a Four Swords experience in either the Adult or Fallen timelines, for example, which leaves some ripe opportunities for new games in that direction (I would love to see a Wind Waker timeline Four Sword or otherwise Vaati-related game, where Link has to fight Vaati and there's a co-op emphasis for gameplay that isn't required but can make things interesting).

Well true, but the Four Sword's and Master Sword's powers and origin stories conflict with other games.  The Master Sword is the Blade of Evil's Bane, and no evil can touch it, while the Picori Blade was not only withdrawn from its pedestal by Vaati but its power was also shattered, leaving Link forced to rebuild it from scratch in order for it to be capable of combatting Vaati on even footing.  The Picori Blade's story is tied with the Picori/Minish, while the Master Sword was essentially the reforged Goddess Sword.  I like to think of them as similar weapons that perform similar roles but are otherwise unconnected save that they are both used by the same hero in the same universe.

Don't worry, I'll be covering that.  *wink*

Oh yeah, the Wind Tribe seems like a lot of fun to expand upon.  I would love to check this out; in earlier fanfic attempts I have tried to make some cool origin stories for Hyrule, something like a Hyrule Historia of my own but filling in gaps that are left behind, such as why Hylia's importance was so big for early Hylians but suddenly worship of her dropped to zero in modern Hyrule, as well as some of the big connections between certain races (Zolas and Zoras, Gorons and Lizalfos, Kokiri and Deku Scrubs, etc) and how potentially those rivalries started as far back as pre-Skyward Sword Hyrule.  It would be fun to be able to see another person's perspective on it.

On that note, have you ever heard of a really good fanfic called Curse of the Triforce?  It's an AMAZING perspective on the origin of the Imprisoning War and introduces cool origin stories for different aspects of the games, such as Twinrova, the reason why every princess in Hyrule is named Zelda, even the origins of Stallord!  It's a great read, really unique and well-written...

Oh cool, you've read Cruse of the Triforce as well? I freaking love that story:D

It's nice to see I'm not the only one who thinks that Vaati's would've made the perfect enemy for a true Wind Waker sequel, not the least which was that he's mainly oriented on the element of Wind Itself but because his style of characters just fits that game Universe... Oh well.

I would love to see the expansion of other races in the Zelda Universe. Most notably the Lizafos, I feel like there is a lot of potential for them but they're never included into the main plot sadly T_T I always thought if they were ever intelligent to have a culture that it would mainly be very animist/shaman based.

The Four Sword is a missed opportunity, I would've loved to see more insight to it and why it a Sword would split you into Four in the first place but it's just mainly for gameplay reasons sadly.
When me and my friends did an early (And rather creppy) re-imagination of the Four Swords, we did something where the Four Sword was made of the Power of 4 Power Elemental Deity-Like Figures that were either slayed or offered themselves up for the Blade to increase its power. Of course it is unknown whether or not they gave themselves up willing or if the Minish/Picori enslaved them.
Not the most creative I know but we were young.

The Zelda Series Contradicts itself a lot. I remember it was said that the Sages originally created the Master Sword back in the Old Days but now apparently Hylia did so. Not something I was a fan of at first but I grew used to it.

:XD: It's a great fic, right?  Half-tempted to reread it, it's been a while...

Well, I used to put Minish Cap and the Four Swords games in the Adult Timeline since they were actually the real introduction of Toon Link, rather than Wind Waker.  They had him drawn in Toon Link's art style in Minish Cap to begin with, not to mention the sprites in the original Four Swords...it would be nice to see him return, maybe in an Atlantis-styled game (given that they have developed steam technology by the time of Spirit Tracks).  It'd be a nice mechanic, and an engaging way to incorporate the best part about portable gaming; namely the multiplayer aspect.

I personally depicted Lizalfos similar in style to the Aztecs, Mayans, or similar jungle-based cultures and empires.  Given that they're almost always found in large numbers near some of the biggest and ancient temples in Hyrule, there may be a connection between them and these ruins, like remnants of a lost empire that long fell to time.

Well, the Minish Cap does imply how the Four Sword developed its power, given that it required four sacred elements to help forge it into the weapon we all know and love.  The original Picori Blade didn't have these powers, otherwise the Minish Cap would have been a Four Sword game.

Oh yeah, it does contradict itself.  In the end, the Zelda team's primary focus has always been gameplay, so things do cross over and contradict themselves.  (Ghirahim, for example, can steal Link's sword when it's developed into the Master Sword, even though only Link is supposed to be able to use it).  But at least they gave us some indication to show they kind of care about their fans with Hyrule Historia; it helped solve once and for all the continuity of the games.  Maybe not what we wanted, but at least it's something...

And I certainly shall get around to it!

And that's alright!
Being very descriptive is great for imagery! :D
And imagery is an art all of its own! :aww:

Indeed it is, but I thought I'd give you a heads-up anyway.  Lots of people can get intimidated seeing the 7,000+ word count per chapter...XP

With that much going from your head to paper, you could write your own series! :D
And that's super impressive!
