That's really cool :) I was actually looking at a some some 3d models like this and its starting to inspire to venture into the world of 3D design/art , but so far all I've managed to find is 3D blender and sculptris got any suggestions ? My main aim it to make 3D characters for artwork and some side animation, I mostly want to focus on the art aspect

A friend of mine just discovered blender. He is doing a lot of research and it seems to have alot of the same capabilities as Maya/ 3DSMAX/ and zbrush, so I think that would be a great place to start (plus...its free). The absolute best piece of advice i can give you is...3d art has a ton of different aspects. There is modeling, texturing, color mapping, lighting. It is a lot to learn. I'm not saying this to discourage you, but just to tell you to give yourself time with each aspect. I've been using Maya and zbrush for a couple years now and i still learn something new every time i do something.

Good luck, and stick with it.
