Turkish Evolution by KeldBach Turkish Evolution by KeldBach
Turkey is set to drop the “controversial” theory of evolution from the high school curriculum to better reflect local and national values, making it the second predominantly Muslim country after Saudi Arabia to not teach students Darwin’s theory.

Educators in Turkey argue that Charles Darwin’s theory is too complex for teenagers to understand and that they should wait until they enter college to be able to comprehend and discuss secular scientific discourse. Starting from the 2019 school year, biology textbooks will, therefore, ditch a national curriculum chapter about the concept.

The decision to drop Darwin got the thumbs up from the Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Source: RT News

Creationism is for the ignorant, superstitious, and backward.

I'm a christian and I have to say this. Evolution is in fact a thing. Whether you want to call Garden of Eden 100% fact, just symbolic, or things were left unsaid, we can still see traces of changes in different species.

Like Chimney Swifts wings' reduction due to trucks (I think it was Chimney swifts) and some finches around the Galapagos islands.

And should I even mention some 'scientific facts' in the Quran that can easily be proven false today?

Turkish kids are apparently incredibly stupid. His beliefs, not mine.

I like how you fundamentally misunderstood my comment and then accused me of racism. I literally said "his beliefs, not mine" but your reading comprehension is so bad that you completely missed that. You're not making a good case for yourself.

Isn't it a bit hypocritical that you tell me not to be prejudiced right after you insult protestants? Nothing about my comment even remotely had anything to do with protestantism but you, in a blind fury, mentioned them like they were relevant to the topic at hand.

There are also certain Christian sects who would gladly agree with Erdogan.

You should realize that Protestantism have historically taken the Bible literally. Martin Luther, who happened to be a superstitious, anti-Semitic drunk, believed that only faith alone would give salvation and part of it was to take everything in the Bible literally. Had Protestantism never existed andthe corruption of  indulgence ceased being practiced by the Catholic Church, we would have be a thousand years more advanced.

Very sad indeed. Looks like the 'sultan' wants to take Turkey back to the dark ages.

How much support is there for Islam in Turkey?
Probably not so few.

Less than people who supported Hitler before WW2. Mostly less educated people like other totalitarians of the world.

Well, technically speaking Germans during the 30's
could hardly be called uneducated. In fact their
educational, technological, scientific, artistic and
philosophical level was by far beyond that of any
so-called Democracy. The assumption that a desire
for necessary change, propagandistly called
"totalitarian", is somehow linked to stupidity
simply does not stand the test of logic.

That being said, Germany was not representative
of all other countries.

Another step in undoing the secular revolution that Ataturk brought about, here is a quote by Ataturk that mentions the importance of enlightening the Turkish people with science, among other things: Mustafa Ataturk - private opinion of religion

Some wise words from a wise man. The Turks are wonderful people who deserve better than what 'sultan' Erdogan can give them.
