Rutting Season by KeldBach Rutting Season by KeldBach
A Red Deer stag (Cervus elaphus) calling out at the Jægersborg Dyrehave, a wildlife reserve north of Copenhagen. From Wiki en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Deer

The Red Deer (Cervus elaphus) is one of the largest deer species. The Red Deer inhabits most of Europe, the Caucasus Mountains region, Asia Minor and parts of western and central Asia. It also inhabits the Atlas Mountains region between Morocco and Tunisia in northwestern Africa, being the only species of deer to inhabit Africa. Red Deer have been introduced to other areas including Australia, New Zealand and Argentina. In many parts of the world the meat (venison) from Red Deer is used as a food source.

A gorgeous photo. I am an artist and I was wondering if you would give me permission to use this in a painting. I would give you credit for the photo. My website is ppendergast.com. Thanks, Patty

way cool !
i wonder if their sound (bugle) is the same as our elk - wapiti - in the U.S ?

Thanks. I wouldn't know since I never seen an elk in real life. The elk is bigger than this one, so the sound might be proportionally louder ;)

I'm repeating myself:you are very lucky!I never saw this animal in the wild but my great mother yes...

Yes, I guess I'm lucky, but the deer are in a protected area and they are used to seeing people every day, so it's possible to get pretty close to them. But if you get too close, they'll either run away or even attack you if they feel threatened. I hope you'll be lucky to see them some day, because they are quite common all over Europe :)

Ah...I know that are quite dangerous because they are very strong and heavy.
maybe from a respectable distance with a teleobjective maybe...
