An Owl Butterfly (Caligo eurilochus) from Central and South America, taken at the Tropical House, Copenhagen Zoo. From Wiki en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Owl_butt… :
The underwing pattern is highly cryptic. It is conceivable that the eye pattern is a generalized form of mimicry. It is known that many small animals hesitate to go near patterns resembling eyes with a light-colored iris and a large pupil, which matches the appearance of the eyes of many predators that hunt by sight. According to the Batesian mimicry theory the pattern on the wings of Caligo resemble the head of a predator like a lizard or an amphibian. It should deter predators while resting, feeding, mating or emerging from the pupa.

its amazing!
I hope you like it and don't mind my including you in this.
but when i saw it again im like
...i can touch it through my computer
I wouldn't expect a butterfly to be furry, would you?
i didnt see it ._.
The lovely pattern of its furry body, the spectacular striped eyes, and the thin, delicately haired legs. It's a beautiful insect all over for sure, and with your skill of photography, you've allowed us to see beyond the initial pleasure of admiring this lovely creature's wingspan.
