Overlooking the Lake by KeldBach Overlooking the Lake by KeldBach
Took a long ride on my bicycle this evening and made a stop at the ruins of an old Viking castle. There wasn't much left to see as it was completely overgrown with weeds, but I enjoyed the nice view from the top of the ruins. The Vikings also built the little church to the left, which certainly seemed to be in a much better condition. The place is called Tårnborg, which means Tower Castle in English, and a sign near by provided the following bit of information:

Tårnborg was built in the middle of the 12th century as part of the coastal defences. The castle consisted of a strong ring wall around a central tower. In addition there is the still preserved church. In 1289 as well as in 1326, Tårnborg was conquered by rebellious noblemen. At the beginning of the 15th century the castle was abandoned.

The castle was even equipped with an advanced hypocaust heating system, that blew hot air into the walls via canals from an underground furnace. Some more shots below from the same location:

Thanks very much, Dennis. The light was indeed great, but also a bit tricky to deal with, due to the strong contrasts. I didn't wanted the foreground to get too dark, so the clouds got a little blown-out in some places. Oh well :D

it's easy to want it all and hard to get it... darn it.

the clouds look great with just the tiniest of little spot nearing blown. 's good.
