I work as Environmental scientist for my Native American tribe T'Sou-ke as their environmental manager. For my work I set up scientific studies that research the environments condition in T'Sou-ke Nation traditional territory including water quality testing for pollution in salmon habitat, mapping of endangered species and gathering traditional ecological knowledge on traditional uses of native plants for food and medicine.
My photography is taken on Vancouver Island, British Columbia Canada. Vancouver Island is the location of both my tribes with my Grandfathers tribe TSou-ke with traditional territory around the city of Sooke and my grandmothers tribe lekwammen that have traditional territory around the Cities of Colwood, Langford and Victoria.
My photography started out from me taking pictures at work for field descriptions and document endangered plants. Being an artist and I wanted more out of the simple point and shoot camera my work provided, so started collecting camera gear to help me get the shots I wanted. I view my photography as a way of showing the natural world around me and bring awareness to these animals, plants and locations, all of which have been sacred to my tribe for countless generations.
My main interests in photography are Nature and Cultural photojournalism.
