Too long between dark horizons,
a nameless wind left me here.
Lonely siren,
My sails hang in rags and tatters;
each line and spar,
sings a weary song.
Let me lean into your milky surf;
run aground at last!
where I may sleep
long and deep
in the warm white sands
of your endless shore.
  I promise to restrict myself to art and photography
after this.

I saw where you said you would restrict yourself to art and photography after that poem.  I hope not!  We all have a story to tell and there are so many wonderful ways of telling that story.  A writer paints with words...

I really need to be inspired to resort to poetry.  Frankly I'd rather put the energy into a good painting.

I have always communicated better by writing than speaking.  I have a real love of words, phrases, quotes, etc.  There was no real communication in my family when I was young and I learned to write as a way to try to figure things out, so I have kept journals most of my life.   When I write poetry, it is like it just comes to me and I have to write it down quickly or I am afraid I will forget it.  But once in a while  I hit a brick wall.  I started a poem right after Robin Williams died and then reached a point where I just couldn't finish it.  I still have it though and some day those phrases I am waiting for will come.

In view of how Robin's life was cut off short, perhaps the poem is best left incomplete, even cut off in mid sentence.

I know.  I admired him so much.  Most comedians are depressed people.  I knew when I saw him on Mork and Mindy years ago that he had a great talent.  My favorite movie of his is The Fisher King.  Good Morning Vietnam!  is also another favorite of mine.  Just recently I was able to watch a movie of his that I had never seen.  But it has taken me a long time because it hurt so much to know that someone who brought so much laughter and happiness to others did not find it within; so much so that he ended his own life.

I used to love his stand-up shows.
