A Lady of Propriety by KeeganYoung A Lady of Propriety by KeeganYoung
She looks similar like a lethargic swan. Enjoy.

I love the diamond earrings, you did a good job of catching their light and of getting her likeness. Nice work on shading her hair too.

ps. Deronda's friend was named Hans.

No problem. I was only helping out. ^.^ Because it really helps you improve next time you draw something like it. (Same thing goes for writing)

And thank -you- for having your picture here. *grin*

In that case, here it be: When I look at the picture, the nose pops out at me more than it should, and the ear looks too flat. I would recommend just a tad less shading on the nose (especailly around her nostril) and more on the ear. To help make it look more 3D, Make sure you make the inside part the darkest shade, have it gradually get lighter, but still have the light catch in the right places from behind to show that it's made of cartilage (or, looks that way, lol) and you should be good.

I say this from experience; because ears are by far the WORST thing for me to draw. That and feet...so I stick to portraits nowadays.

Great job on this piece, though. your talents shown here are remarkable.

Sorry to have forsaken you advice for so long!

I attempted it on my latest portrait but I'm not sure it worked out quite so well. Possibly next time!!

And thanks again for your thoughts, I very much appreciate it!!

I love the shading here! I can't pull of blondes very well without making their hair look greyish...or black.

Are you okay with critiques? because I do have one tip...

Why thank!!

And please do, by all means. Most seem to think I'll eat them alive over the internet if they make a suggestion. I'm not at all pleased with how it ended up, the skin is a mess and the hair got smudged out of recognition....not to mention the silk looks flat.

Wow... :wow: I can tell how much effort went into this! All the details are beautiful and her hair looks magnificent! :D I am a fervent admirer of Romola Garai and you've certainly done her justice. :) I've promised myself that I won't watch Daniel Deronda until I've read the book. =P

I love how your style always comes out of your drawings. You choose to accentuate the details in some parts of your portraits and leaves the others ... "plus floue" ? For instance, her flyaway hair which you would really notice is but a few scrawgly lines yet her neck is hundreds of strokes. It's a brilliant technique, one that Vermeer himself used. [link] (see the threads) It's insane to think that on the same drawing, you could have the incredible details of the diamond earrings and the softer shading of the dress. Argh, I'm really expressing myself horribly aren't I? ;p What I really mean to say is that the variations of precision in your drawing are impressive and even though they might be unintential, I've observed them in many of your drawings and have thus concluded that they are a mark of your brilliance and personal style.

Now off I go to steal her earrings.

I'm not far in either but it's pretty good so far. I had to go and buy a new one-some of the pages on the copy I originally got were ripped in a spot I didn't see until I started reading... ><

Can't wait for the movie! I'd love to try out for Ann, (Felicity is my favorite, but I fit the description of Ann much more closely) though I don't have a British accent. (hello, diction coach!)

I also want to see who they cast as Kartik. :)

I can't wait for it either, they had Rachel Hurd-Wood down for Gemma but then I suppose got rid of her and the cast is still undecided. I personally don't think she would have been very good.

I've only seen her in two movies, and yeah, I agree she isn't very Gemma-ish. Might make a cute Ann, however. Something strikes me as Felicity-ish about this pic of her, too, though I don't know if she'd quite fit Fee either:

But yeah-guess we'll just have to wait and watch the movie when it comes out, eh? :)
