Photography Updates

I carried out a poll. It was slightly biased I must admit, because in one of the options I tried to brainwash people into choosing Sony as their preferred make of camera but you guys just wouldn't bite. As it stands now the poll has a close high rating between Canon and Nikon - with (surprisingly) Canon coming out top. So what is that makes You prefer the make of camera that you use? What are its quirky features and endearing parts? If you want to see the full results of the poll

Group Spotlight

This week SaraJ3an has brought to my attention the wonderful group Small-Simple Here's what she says:

Small-Simple is a very active and still growing group, photography only group, whose focus is to highlight things in like that we are grateful for, this being friends, family, pets, nature, or little things.

We have a great set of diverse and active admins, some of us are amateur and hobby photographers and others have taken their love and passion to the professional level. We specialize in many types of photography from nature to macro, to stock, conceptual and wild life.

We encourage photographers of al levels to join and contribute to our group. We hold weekly polls to choose a new photo for a feature folder, as well as some pretty great contest from time to time.

I have a Cannon, so I suppose that is why I voted "Cannon", but truthfully, I need a good camera that is relatively simple to use. And Cannon fits that description for me! :camera:

I currently use a Nikon only because a friend sold it to me as a hand me down for only $100. She sold it because she received money and bought her Canon. I'm receiving money soon as well, and buying a Canon myself. Photographs taken with a Canon has the best quality, in my opinion, and always look the cleanest and neatest. Canons have a way of registering white balance anywhere that Nikon can't even compare to. I'm not surprised Canon came out on top at all; EVERY photographer I know in my hometown or where I live now have always preferred Canon over anything. It's always been the leader, right in front of Nikon, as far as I'm concerned. That's all I've ever heard about the two. I personally think Sony is better than Nikon, because Sony balances white light as WHITE LIGHT, as well, and Nikon's "white light" is horridly yellow. But I still don't think anything beats Canon. The photo "Whisper" in my gallery under 2011 Portfolio was taken with a simple Canon PowerShot, and it's the one I'm more proud of than any other out of all the works I've done. XD

Hurray for Nikons. They are the best and everything else suxs! JUST KIDDING. It's all about optics now (in the DSLR market). Sensors are getting to be fairly comparable in body.
LOVE square crop. They are so much easier to feature. They all sit together well. No need to fiddle around with tables in your CSS or rearranging. Oh and they're pretty too..... :D

I'm majoring in marketing (with 10 years of work experience in a marketing agency) and perhaps I can provide an answer as to why you couldn't budge (brainwash or whatever) people into choosing a camera brand we don't use (love).

Both Canon and Nikon have clear market position - and excellent model of marketing communication. Obviously, both are quality products. Let me elaborate in 3 quick points.

1) They are by no means cheap - they make you work hard to get them and still leave you wanting for more (more lens, more accessories, new bodies, etc..) - so, once you go one brand, you're hooked.

2) They use social/testimonial but not obvious advertising - they provide the tools and let the finished work (photos) advertise them - something that comes natural to these kinds of products (check GoPro cameras for example)

3) People who already use them convince us that we can perform better with the same tools, and because of the quality, community and available free knowledge - we do perform better (because when you start to invest, you don't only invest your money) - once proven right, we are clearly mind-blown and grateful - love towards "the provider" is starting to form

So, because all of the above (and much more, but let's not complicate any more) both Canon and Nikon are love marks. Our commitment to those brands is emotional. And emotional > rational. Which leads me to the point.

You wanted to brainwash us, yet our hearts kept us faithful.

Oh and... GO CANOOOON! :la: :la: :la: :la:

I was being a little sarcastic ;)
But yes, fair points!

Guess I stand corrected... Seems like Sony's a love mark as well. :D
