Bunny Girl Bodysuit Tutorial and Pattern by KayPikeFashion Bunny Girl Bodysuit Tutorial and Pattern by KayPikeFashion
My First Tutorial! Bunny Girl Body Suit

Just in time for halloween! I have been making body suit costumes since 2007 and I still really have no idea how to do it. BUT I did document how I threw my latest strapless red bodysuit for my traditional bunny girl costume together. You may have seen me in this at Animethon 2012 or at Anime Revolution 2012. I make All my own patterns so my ideas are kinda non-conventional and ways of doing things don't really follow logic, HOWEVER I have promised to a few girls that I would put up how I made this costume. Please forgive if it's confusing! I added in mini tutorials about boning and bias tape as these are new things I had to learn to make this suit
Need to buy

Thank you so much for this! I wanted to do an outfit for the Bunny Hutch party at DragonCon next year but I had literally zero idea on how to even BEGIN making a bunny suit. This seems like the easiest and fastest way. I love you for this. <3

This is so useful!

I was was wondering how expensive it is to do this?
And how hard is boning to do for someone who hasn't done it before?

Does anyone know?

Thanks so much!

Do you have to be skinny for this
VisMayorMorror Featured By Owner Apr 12, 2015

Hi Calgary Girl,

Can you tell what you mean by "Mounting Fabric"? I assuming it's the inner fabric and you used to attach the boning?

Also did you attach the right and left breast patterns to the corset portion with seams raw or did you seam the corset first with seams facing downwards than later attached the breast patterns?

And finally, I'm using your bunny suit as the structure than later creating the Wonder Woman
body suit (bikini and top) and attaching it. Is this the way you creating your "OUTSTANDING WONDER WOMAN COSTUME"?

I appreciate your response. It's been challenging since I've never made a corset and my daughter has been asking me for years to help her make a WW costume.

My Mother-in-Law was from Edmonton. Her father established most of the early immigrant school teaching English to the Ukranian Immigrants during the Depression. It kept him employed throughtout the Depression since there was great need to teach Ukranians English.
I traveled to Canada with my family recently and found the landscapes to be so beautiful.

This tutorial is really great, I especially like the duct tape idea in the beginning. It'll definitely help me make my Poison Ivy Cosplay bodysuit now. I couldn't figure out before how to get the right sizes for myself, but this duct tape thing will definitely help me now!! ^^

This is amazing! I've always been aggravated at how often the "Playboy bunny" bodysuits have weird wrinkles and puckering around their seams...your bodysuit looks so beautiful and smooth! Gonna try this tutorial for my next burlesque costume (thanks for demonstrating your dance moves to show you can still move in it)!

Secret to keep plastic boning from hurting you so much! Make a lining to cover the casings, use cotton or the like, and stitch it in. It adds extra layers to keep it from poking you.

Thanks sooo much for the tutorial! I had a quick question. What do you use the Exterior Mounting Tape for?
otakitty Featured By Owner Aug 1, 2014  Hobbyist General Artist
she's probably using it as double sided tape, to glue the bra to your chest so it doesn't flop down.

hello i absolutely love this pattern!! i just wanted to ask how you knew where to put the sleeves for the boning?  thats the only step i don't that the part where you mean to digitize the pattern? can you explain it a little further.... i tried to follow that small picture of the back with the lines and numbers but its to small to read on my screen. thanx!
KayPikeFashion Featured By Owner Jun 3, 2014  Professional Artist
I kind of just wing it to put the boning, im sure theres a proper way i've just never looked into it. digitizing: You just print off am image, I use a swirl, put your pattern on the image and take a photo. Then you can scale the photo on the computer to match.
TheLostUchihaTwin Featured By Owner Sep 14, 2014  Hobbyist General Artist
I really don't understand the "digitizing" step at all. A swirl? Print off what image? I'm confused. Can "Digitizing" be skipped?

Did you wrap yourself or did you have help? I never seem to be able to find anyone to wrap me lol.

Awesome tutorial Kay!~ <3
Did you use any tricks to hold your bust up in the bunnysuit?
I'm a DD so not sure if this tutorial would work well for me or not.

Is this the same type of pattern you used to make you Jessica Rabbit dress? I've searched through a lot of different cosplayers as Jessica, yours is by far the best I've seen!!

How much fabric would you recommend for the bodysuit?
NMDZ Featured By Owner Feb 10, 2014  Student
This is brilliant, just what I have been looking for. How easy would it be to put lacing in the back rather than a zip?

Thank you for making this tutorial, I hope I will be able to sew my own bunny suit soon (,though I'm really afraid how it will turn out. 7`)
I just wanted to ask.. do you actually use the exterior mounting tape on your skin or do you wear something underneath?
If you use it directly on your breasts, doesn't it hurt when you try to remove it? Do you have any recommendations for that?

I have some experience with duct tape on skin and.. let's say I'm really happy the scars faded over time. I'm fine with a little bit of pain (cosplay etc. is a passion after all), but I'd rather not destroy my little breasties for good, so, what's your experience? :)
KayPikeFashion Featured By Owner Jan 26, 2014  Professional Artist
Lots of people use mounting tape! I have to use exterior mounting tape 'cuz I'm carrying a lot of 'weight'. ;)
It doesn't bug me any!
ozwick Featured By Owner Jan 5, 2014  Hobbyist Artist

This was a lot of fun to see.  As a long-time Bunny fan, and an engineer, seeing how the costume is made is particularly nice.

Also, I was very impressed with you dancing in the video -- there must be a lot of double-sided tape in the cups of that outfit!

oh man I am jealous of your bod. you are very pretty. :)
Also, very good idea using the duct tape for that.
The costume is really well done.

I have been searching the web for a pattern like this! Thank you so much!
Momijizukamori Featured By Owner Sep 7, 2013
Fabulous tutorial! When you say you used a simple scaling image to help digitize, what do you mean? I assume it's the print out in the back, and has markings for aligning things properly after you take the picture? Digitizing some of my more heavily modified patterns would be awesome, so that step grabbed me *g*

great tutirial on a bunny suit, but also any tight fitting dress. I'm a drag king, so my cosplay is a bit different for transformation. Even living ina big town like Dallas FT Worth we still have to order corset parts on line.

That's cool. I never would have thought of using plastic wrap and duct tape. Smart(then again idk much about costume making).
