Solid picture. I love how the helicopter pops against the gray smoke.

Thanks! It was an incredibly scary scene, but once the fire had burned away from the populated areas it was amazing to photograph...

I am happy to report the fire is 100% contained as of a few days ago  doesn't mean it is out (it burned such a large area that the are parts within the fire-lines that will continue to smolder and burn until we get some real heavy rain/snow...but there were only a few injuries and no deaths :w00t:  About a dozen homes were burned and over 70 "out buildings" barns, sheds etc...but it could have been so much worse in the way of homes...

Wow. Shots like this make you realize how truly gigantic forest fires can be... Incredible work.

I've always thought that the water buckets look almost comically insignificant next to the huge amount of fire and smoke... :P

I saw a comparison map on this one recently - the fire at 97,000 acres; Lake Tahoe at 122,000...and last summer's fire near Yosemite was 257,314 acres...  The buckets do look like just a drop...

Good lord, that's insane :noes:

Hope you're safe over there!

This one wasn't near me - just had friends up in it...in terms of damage, it isn't too bad (yes horrible for those who lost homes and barns - but could have been soooo much worse) only a few injuries and no loss of human life...containment is up to 89% and the fire personnel has been almost cut in half - that is fantastic news!!
