*Warning* Long tired post of ramblings below...

I love art, I love stories, I love fictional worlds, fictional cultures; but I also love our world, Earth, the different cultures, attitudes, environments, and people (...well not most anyway). I was recently reading Under Fire by Henri Barbausse which is a semi-biography of his experience during World War One. For well around 80% of the book, maybe even 90%, he describes what life was like not on the front lines. The mundane things that the soldiers had to do, the people they encountered, and the interactions between each other. My class overall found it boring, yet it is for these reason I liked it. The same could be said for the anime Ghost in the Shell in which even the "filler" episodes show a part of that futuristic society and how our world could possibly function. I understand that there are those who do in fact try to bring forth what many do not see outside of the action shots, or the beauty shots. I what I mean is, these pictures allow you to view life in another part of the world, no matter how similar it may be, for me it's taking me to a place I'll probably never see, and looking at or watching people do work that I know I probably wouldn't want to do and yet it's fascinating. A couple of examples are Morning Activity by The Flower Man and Two Things that Shouldn't Mix by me Both pictures are very different but show two different cultures functioning in their environment and each show quite the contrast. If I take a picture of a guy or women with a neutral face do I/we automatically assume their depressed, sad, tired? They could be really happy, content, or just thinking. I know that there are a lot of pictures and stories out there depicting everyday life but somehow it is made dramatic to capture people's imaginations? Hell, anyone's personally story and be made into a book or a movie, some may be more dramatic while another may not!

Then in fiction I've often wondered about that "other guy." You know, the side kicks that follow our dashing hero or heroess around and watch as they capture all the glory while only getting the runner up spot or honorable mention? Sure I understand that they may probably really follow a certain person because they believe in some cause but why not ever follow their story? While the main person kicks the antagonist's ass all over his hidden lair what are the support group doing? Sometimes you see them releasing hostages or stopping some device thing but the most intense scene is the epic battle between the two main characters. Some examples would be stories about rebuilding a nation after a devastating war such as the anime (based off of a manga) Pumpkin Scissors (…) or the game The Bard's Tale (…). Then there is the ever famous Games Workshop Warhammer 40k "where there is only war." An artist ( on this site has created some scenes (…) ( from that fictional universe that aren't always the heroic or crazy battles scenes one conjures up from the official artwork or video games. One hardly hears about what life would be like as a civilian living in one of the most incredibly hostile environments let alone sees artwork on it.

There are other aspects that could be covered in fiction such as following people affected by the war in the story or maybe the actions of the "hero." For instance refugees caught up in the main hero pulverizing an entire town in an all out brawl with the bad guys or maybe the family of a "henchmen" of the main bad guy. Why are there not many (if any) stories that follow them?

(I really hope that made sense. These are just many thoughts that mull about in my head when I'm tired.) To my few watchers, it would be nice to know. And if you're all wondering how come I don't post any pictures or crummy drawings, well... it's called school and lots of HW :(

P.S. Sorry for any crappy grammatical mistakes.
