This is excellent. Would you mind telling me how you painted that texture along the left edge of the piece?

Sure~ That is part of a monotype print, a technique of printmaking. One applies (typography) ink on a surface, for example a glass/plexiglass plate, freely draws/manipulates the shapes (or as I did here, sprinkled a mild..or was it strong?... diluent over the colors and of course the substances reacted, the diluent "eats" the ink. I wouldn't recomment playing around with diluents if you are not experienced in printmaking D: they burn your skin and are really toxic...), works some magic then put a piece of good paper over it, stroke the backside and voi, the result is a unique piece of art each time, as it can't be reproduced/replicated ever again. I play with the technique mainly to get various textures, patterns, effects which I later use as backgrounds, as you can see here. So, after that, I combined my drawing of Vanitas with the monotype in different layers in Photoshop.

Though truth be told I have a whole collection of monotypes already which I use for my graphic design projects at uni and in various commissions :) and as you can see, I use them when I feel it's necessary in fanart as well, why not :lol:

Ah, that sounds like a fairly involved process. I've done a little bit of printmaking with lithographs, but never with diluents. It created a really interesting effect though!

I find lithography by far more complicated than producing monotypes :XD: it's great you got to experience litho, it's a pretty rare thing nowadays, really

I had an instructor guiding me through it. I've never tried it on my own. ^ ^;

Ah, I see it is your birthday, so happy birthday to you!

I'm relieved then, I shiver at the thought of someone trying to do litho by themselves xD
Thankies!~~ :iconfurryhuggleplz:

The bloodstains really make this piece. Who knew gore could look so beautiful?
kaus-quietis's avatar
Thank you! Just a few splatters there can really add a different feeling to it, yes. I love using the power of such saturated reds :heart:
