Description
A week and a half after the body, the neck finally got here yesterday evening. I suspect that Chinese shippers have a new app or service that goes to ridiculous lengths to find them the absolute cheapest shipping option possible; the body got here USPS, while the neck was sent UPS and routed through Canada. I've ordered only the neck of my next project, and that's following the Canadian path too, should be here in another couple days. Meanwhile, after two failed attempts to veneer a rear bay cover, and reserving one Tele-face worth, I had only enough curly maple to cover MOST of the headstock. A bit of packaging-material thin wood and some of the last maple offcuts sufficed to make an oversized truss rod cover that should hide the gap.
Pic taken just before the crowning step of a fretjob, having leveled, ramped, and end-rounded the frets so far. Four rounds of polishing follow crowning, three grits of Hosco fret erasers (the 80-grit used only on the ends and sides, never the tops) then some 0000-grade steel wool for a final shine.
