Rather than let the usual implosion take place, I cut a piece out over the rear bay, in the hopes of smoother coverage around the edge since it wouldn't be pulled on so much.  You can see a few wrinkles in the fabric to the right... and those will be matched in the wood, unfortunately.  I'm ready to iron things a bit flatter.  The glue bottle is there to keep the hose upright; if I let it tilt naturally down I can hear a faint hissing, never good when working with vacuum.  Prior to this step I re-drilled the controls, but for 1v1t3w instead of 2v2t3w.  Trying to cram full controls into that bay was technically possible, but ran a risk of shorts and would have put the knobs uncomfortably close together from the guitarist's perspective.
